Range Report

Was out at the range w/ my chronograph, a M10-5 4" barrel, 10-5 2" barrel & a 66-2 4".

My load is a 125 gr JHP / 5 gr titegroup.

I was consistently getting 800 something fps w/ the 10-5 4"
Not surprisingly I was getting almost exactly 100 fps less w/ the 2".

What was surprising was I getting that same 100 fps less with the 66.

I've been to the range 3 times since I bought the chrono & the results were the same each time.

Any ideas on why the 66 is getting the same as the 2" M10?

This one is pretty baffling to me.

Were the 66's loads put up in 38 or 357 cases?

It could be several things like cylinder/forcing cone gap, groove diameter, cylinder throat diameter, etc.

If it is one of the above or not is anyones guess............Creeker

What LAH said. The gas is escaping a bit somehow.

I was using the same rounds in all three.

Also in the 357 chamber the bullet travels a greater distance before engaging the forcing cone.........Creeker

Some guns just shoot slower or faster than others. It could be a tighter bore, the difference between stainless and non stainless steel, cylinder gap, or a host of other things.

Also in the .357 mag. there will be a longer gap between the case mouth and the chamber throat which would allow gas to escape around the relatively short 125 gr. bullets.
