Range story.

I love it when the range snobs think that their higher priced pistols are better than my lowly SDVE and then I look at their target and it's all over the place but my shots are nice and tight.

A master craftsman can produce good work even with inferior tools, but even the best tools won't produce good work from those who lack skills.

This isn't to say the SDVE pistols are inferior tools, and it also isn't to deny that superior tools can make achieving great results easier. However, the man masters the tool, not vice versa.

If I wanted a Glock.....

I know what guns are out there. If I wanted a Glock, I would have bought a Glock. The thing is that I once considered buying a Glock, but haven't yet.

Tell the range cretin to put that in his pipe and smoke it. And maybe ask if he's a sponsor for Glock.

Funny thing is, I haven't seen him there since that day. Maybe he got the point that nobody wants to hear his bs.

Well...sometimes, it does come down to price. Since most Glock models are over $500 and the SDVEs are usually about $200 less, that difference in price can matter if you are on a budget, and still need to buy ammo, a holster, cleaning supplies, etc.

Frankly, I've owned several Glocks (17, 19, 21, 23, 26, 30SF, and 36) and none of them felt comfortable in my hand, except the 36. I find the SD9VE to be more comfortable and give me a better grip than any Glock. I'd still prefer the SDVE over a Glock, even if they were priced the same, or the Glock was lower in price.

The only other 2 handguns I've fired that felt more comfortable was an xd9 and a 1911. But both of those are priced completely different from a sd9ve

If I could have one of everything, I would. If I had time to shoot half of the ones I already have, I'd be a happy man.
I have offered others the chance to try what I've brought with me that day, and they usually return the favor. I don't think I've ever not liked what they were nice enough to share, and everyone that has tried mine seems to have had fun. I've never had anyone criticize mine, and I damn sure would not be rude enough to say an unkind word about another's choice. Like I said though, I do seem to like whatever is in hand.

I agree completely about 1911s...they are my favorite pistol when it comes to grip and mechanical action. I don't care for them for carry, though. I've owned a couple of XDM pistols, and they were very good...I bought an XDS in .45 when they first came out, but the recall was announced right after I bought it, before I even shot it, and my LGS took it back in trade for what I paid for it. Here lately I've been thinking about getting a .45, and maybe another XDS in .45, but now that the Shield has come out in .45, I think I'll be saving for that.

With me it's all about impressions. If he wouldn't have acted like that, it wouldn't have been an issue. As far as fire arms I didn't really enjoy, I've fired a few hi points and even though their cheap as heck and are heavy enough to have next to no noticeable flip, I didn't really care for the completely brick feel, that also reminds me of the tarus raging judge, 454 casull isn't fun to me at all... OK maybe a round or 2 but that's it.

I've only shot the m&p in 9 when it first came out, I rented it and fired 50 rounds through it. I can't seem to recall how it felt I think I'll have to head down there a few days from now and give it another whirl. Now that I think more in depth the first sdve pistol I shot was the sd40ve and that's how I found out I didn't care for 40 sw. I find it odd I like 9 and I like 45 but I can't stand the feel of 40sw. Sorry for rambling I didn't get a chance to talk firearms enough today apparently.

You're a long way from rambling!

I agree with you about 9mm and 45 ACP and not liking .40 S&W, and it's due to the type of recoil. A 9mm has a soft recoil, to me anyway, and a .45 has a straight back "push" into the hand. The .40 S&W has a hard upward snap, IMO, and I don't care for it.

Ever try 357 sig? It reminds me of a 45 acp with a bit more noise and a smaller bullet. It's an odd one and that's coming from a guy who has a few boxes of 7.62 tokarev and some 9 Makarov

No, I haven't. I came close to buying one...my LGS was offering me a good deal on a SIG in .357 SIG (sounds funny, doesn't it) and I was considering it, but they didn't have any ammo for it, so I didn't buy it. I've never owned or shot a 10MM either.

The most oddball caliber I've ever owned was a S&W Model 544 in .44-40 WCF. It was the Texas Wagon Train model.

As far as owning odditys was my tokarev. On the hand grip the previous owner had his name on there in Czech. That tokarev is long gone now. As far as caliber goes and owning I'd have to say would be my uncle Jim's old webly and Scott revolver, that thing was a blast when it was clean, but as soon as it got dirty thing did not want to fire.

A friend of mine used to call these guys "the annoying crew".
They usually know a lot less than they say.

As GKC previously said, just get what you like to shoot, and
always get good quality. The only person you have to make happy at the range is you.

IME, cringing at the register results in a gun you will be happy with for many years. Don't be afraid to spend up when you
know you have a good thing.
I've had a few handguns, I really like s&w for their painless warranty process.

One day I was at my local indoor range with a couple of my guns and was setting up and the guy next to me asked about my SW 9mm 5"pc. I told him that I really like it and shot pretty good with it. He went on to tell me all the bad things about it. The ported barrel and ported slide and how expensive the gun was.... He was shooting a glock, not sure of the model. Well he was shooting at playing cards at 5 yards away... He hands me a playing card and says see if you can hit this... I'm thinking really!! So I send that card down about 15 yards and commence to shredding that thing with 17 rounds and rapid fired the last 3.. He never said another word to me.....lol Now I'm not sure the last two of the three I shot hit the target but I made my point...

You know that leads me to another odd point, I've noticed the more sustained I fire my sd9ve I'm not quite as accurate as I am with others. But rapid fire with the sd9ve, I can get a decent grouping going at 15 yards or so.

As someone said earlier about the sd9ve has little muzzle flip. Maybe that has something to do with it. I have no clue I have never shot a sd9ve.
