Yesterday afternoon it was in the 60 degree range here,
so my kids (son 31, daughter 32, LEO son in law 33) decided on a range trip to shoot up some of my ammo. been a long time since any range work so I was up for the trip
so off to the falling plate range at Rockcastle shooting center here in central KY
I had bought my wife a new Glock 380 for Christmas, and recently had added a new Ruger American to the stable, so for the most part we took Tupperware autos, Ruger, Glocks 42,17L,19, , and old German PP in 380, and my early S&W 649 38 only, with the short barrel that rides my belt on such outings. had 500 rds. of 9mm, and 300 rds. of 380, and 10 rds. of 38 spl. , (full revolver and 1 speed loader, 128grain +p hollow points)
so we decided on the bay with the 6" plate racks
for the most part I set at the table and was the designated mag loader, and rack rope guy, (since both my knees are bad,) as they sent my money down range, and we were all very decent shots at the closer ranges, we started out at abut 10 yds. and progressed back in 10 yard intervals
finally reaching the 50 yds. mark, at that point the plates were winning as often as the shooters, including myself with the autos including the 6 inch 17L
so at the end I was disgusted with my lack of shooting ability with the plastic guns so I took out the little stainless j frame revolver form its resting place on my hip.
it seemed to smile at me as I aligned the front sight of that short barrel in the frame cut notch rear sight as if it was saying " old friend I've got your back!
setting there in that chair, shooting off hand at 50 yards I placed those sights at 6 o'clock on those plates and each time the Smith spoke a plate fell , 5 shots and 5 hits with a cold gun.
the guys got to ragging me about it being luck.
so I reloaded and did it again, now I was out of bullets for the 38, and as I replaced the empty pistol in its holster it seemed to whisper to me "you've missed me, haven't you!
so I have set here and remembered what and old timer told me once " I would rather hit something six times than miss it 17, so I just ordered a case of 38 ammo,
