An article in American Handgunner magazine some time ago showed a portable wooden base to mount a Ransom Rest and gave details on making one. The base of the mount was several feet wide and you laid the mount down on the ground and parked your car or truck on the base to hold it in place, mounting the rest on top of the base. Thick lumber glued and screwed together. I was partners in a R.R. and a chronograph at the time and I built one. It worked quite well with guns up to .44 Magnum. I will have to keep my eyes open for that issue, it may be in the basement.
Buddy moved, we did a coin toss to see who got the gear. He won the toss and bought me out. I have since bought a new rest but haven't yet taken it out of the box.
