Rare 1917 factory Target

I want the name of the doctor who did the horseshoe job. Jim, how does it feel to be so envied and hated all at the same time by the same group of low lifes that would " pry it from your cold dead hands"

One serious gun and it has survived very well. I can't imagine that it went to a run of the mill consumer and that a search of any available data should be undertaken.

Thanks for sharing. And yes, I confess that I would be the first one with a pry bar. Sorry.

WOW!
Finally, a FACTORY Target 1917 surfaces!
I never understood why we didn't see some. Seems like a great idea when you think about it, both for target shooters, and as holster guns. With the clips, what could be loaded faster back in the day?

A rare gun that rivials the K frame rimfire snubby! :D ;)

I hope to see it at the next SWCA meeting.

If everyone wants to know how Jim finds these, he had an operation years ago and had a horseshoe inserted!:D
Nice one Jim, be sure to bring it to Tulsa and I'll bring the ammo!:D
Bill

That's an incredible find. A surgically implanted horseshoe, huh. Could you at least give us the name of the doctor?

I think he must have had the whole horse implanted..... great gun, thanks for sharing.

I've already commented once on this gun but I keep coming back to this thread to get another look. What a great piece! I'm glad you got it Jim. It will fit right in with your other rare guns.

Jim, That's an incredable find. Congrats ! - Now, not to rain on your parade, but a close aquaintance of mine, who lives nearby, just scored a Factory lettered 1917 Target in 99% original NICKEL finish !!! Only one Roy has ever lettered , so maybe the only nickel 1917 Target. I have a blue 1917 Target in my collection that has a drift adjustable rear target sight. It's a military gun, not commercial, believed to have been built by Springfield Armory for the Army pistol team. It's a tack driver with handloaded .45 autorim rounds. Give us a range report on how your gun does. Ed.
