Rarity of a 586-4 w/3" barrel?

Watching a GunBroker auction that closed this weekend. Is a 586-4 with a 3" barrel that rare that it would justify a $4500 final bid price?

Worth maybe $3600-3700, that gun wasn't in that good of shape. The owner described it as 99% and it was close to 85%. It's a 1 of 108 run for RSR distributing. There aren't a lot of them around so it's hard to really nail down a price, but this one went down to 2 people that really wanted it and didn't mind overpaying.

Thanks. I know about the 686 CS-1s, but had not heard about special runs of the 586.

What do you honestly do with a $4500 586? Is it simply the rarity that makes it so valuable to others?

The 3" was easily a 97% gun, fired and used but not much.

You may note the same buyer paid just over $3000 for a 586-4 of the same vintage with a 2.5" barrel recently. Some people just want things and money is no object.

When money is no object and you think it is a good investment and/or a fabulous toy then you will pay $6,000.00 for a Colt Python. Or $100,000.00 for a 1969 Doge Charger (there is one on line - I checked - I didn't check the Colt P but I bet they're out there in that number).

Was curiously watching that 3" 586 GB auction because I recently posted 586-4 with 2 1/2" barrel purchased at local gun show for $2000 wondering/questioning if I paid too much. I find it easy to post bargain purchases on the forum and receive accolades on how well I did. Posting a potential over-payed purchase gives members an opportunity to express their opinions. I personally appreciate comments from members as to whether they think I am nuts or extend congrats on purchases. Bottom line...It is nice to find out that there are other 586 Snubaholics out there. Maybe we can put together a support group.

That's the bluing missing off the cylinder from being holstered, far from 97% in my opinion

I too watched that auction and actually bid on it when it was way lower in price on the bidding. But I didn't notice the flaw on the cylinder. That makes my 3" 586 look a lot better to me now as mine is not that bad at all.
