I have got a problem with the seating/crimp die. It is distorting and cutting a ring of brass off the brass. I can't seen to figure this one out.
I'm loading .41 Rem. Mag. I took the seating part out to get a good look at the inside of the die. There is a square shoulder where I think it should be a tapered recess. What is going on with this die ?? HELP PLEASE !

I think you will find that that little ring of brass is pretty much a common occurance with straight wall cases and a roll crimp.

The 41 mag is a straight wall case and should have a roll crimp which your crimp die is. If the brass is starting to buckle, then your trying to get too much of a crimp. A soft to moderate crimp in the crimp groove is all you need.

Hope this helps

Adjust your die to put less of a crimp, and chamfer the inside case mouth.

Good Luck...

Joe

Thanks Guys, I have loaded thousands of .40,.45 and the roll crimp on the inside of those dies don't look anything like the inside of the .41 die. I'll try to back odd the die and see how it works. One other thing: The bullet is a 215 LSWC and the area that I'm crimping is recessed a bunch. So maybe I need to crimp on the land above this recessed area?? The JHP that I've loaded in the past have the crimp land and I had no problem with them ?

The crimp groove should be the top groove below the top drive ring. Your crimp should flex right into that crimp groove

Aren't .40&.45 normally taper crimped while .41mag is roll crimped? If this is the case w/your dies does it explain th difference in what you're seeing?
