I have a few blued steel sats that I have picked up that have had the blades ground down or are damaged. Anybody ever try to re-shaft one ?

A couple of them were ground down buy a gunsmith to make them in to some unknown special tool. Was thinking trying to restore to correct length

Post a pic, maybe the tools can be identified. Might be cool to have a set of S&W tools with original SAT handles.

Non Gunsmith here - but I have ground-filed down screwdrivers to exactly fit.
Often to fit Gun Screws.
But these were cheap screwdrivers .
Not one that belonged to Jesse James!

I've re-shafted a few of the fluted aluminum handle ones. I bought new screwdriver shafts online. They are the long 5mm bits for power screwdrivers. The tip is hollow ground. The length inside the original is tapered. I cut off the new ones and used a drill on a sanding belt too get the taper. Removing the old one was simple heating the handle with a propane torch and pulling the shaft out. Installed the new one the same way, shrink fit.
