I was on a 10 day cruise recently and we had 5 sea days (I actually prefer sea days to the docking days on the islands). Along with enjoying a few good cigars and a few good bourbon's, I brought two books to read.
The first book I read was actually recommended by someone here on the Forum -I forgot who though. It was called "The Dead and Those About to Die" by John McManus. It is a person by person detailed description of the Omaha Beach D-Day landing. It was a bit tough to read - so much gore and detail but tells the true story of actual D-Day US Service men who were in the battle. Not for everyone, but if you are into details about individuals on this subject, it was well written. Not for everyone though.
The second book was "A Woman of No Importance" by Sonia Purnell. It is the life story of the famous WWll spy, agent, OSS and CIA Lady that the Nazi's just could not kill. She had lost a leg on a hunting trip and she was known by the Nazi's as "The Limping Lady". What an incredible life!
This book details the life and times of Virginia Hall and is nothing short of fantastic! I have seen the documentaries and a movie on her and she was one of the most accomplished, brave, fearless and caring women who ever lived - a MUST read!!
