Rear sight paint, sight height

Not really a gunsmithing issue but looking for suggestions on redoing the white outline on a rear sight blade. I tried using a toothpick but it's still a little too thick. I haven't found a really thin paint brush at the local hobby store but if anyone has some suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Also does anyone know the height of the rear sight blade for a 2.5" 66-1? I've been offered a .126" but not sure if it's correct. Thanks!

trim a brush to the size you want....

Try a thin sewing needle with the large loop end pushed into a 1/4" dowel for better control.

Buy the smallest brush u can and trim to size. Buy a couple , you'll probably mess it up on first try.

Try hobby store that has brushes for ceramics. My wife has some really thin ones. I use a toothpick to paint sights myself the secret for me is not too much paint on the toothpick.

BTW, toothpicks are easily made thinner/sharper by shaving them with a razor blade - takes seconds.

o to an art store or an online art supplier. You want what is called a "rigging brush". These have very fine tips, were used for painting in the rigging on sailing ship pictures.

After painting sights for 45+ years I have always found that a sharp toothpick works better than any brush. It is more precise and doesn't spread.

All you need to do now is clean it up with acetone and a Q-tip.
