Purchased a Pre 18 that I thought was in really nice shape. (Note to self: don't buy from online sellers without excellent pictures) Turns out that it has a couple issues and should be a nice shooter once I get a couple issues resolved.
It seems that the gun may have been drilled and tapped for a scope of some sort as the rear sight screw was not original and was not recessed. When I took it out to see if the correct screw would fit. I noticed that the hole was larger and that there was another hole under the sight that would be consistent with where one would mount a scope mount.
My question is can I take it to a gunsmith and have him fit a new screw in the larger hole to hold the sight in place? I don't have any intention of trying to mount anything other that the original sights back on it.

Also, the trigger on this gun looks like polished stainless. Either someone had polished off any case-coloring or it is a newer trigger. I can get some pics tonight, but figured I would ask the collective brain-trust here today 1st.

It depends on what you want to do as to cost. If you can live with the larger screw , you just mod the sight and fit the larger screw. If you want it put back to the orginal size screw then an insert will have to be made more time more money. I always plug the extra holes if they can be seen for the under side. Hard to make the trigger look like it should , best to try and find and orginal if you can't live with it. Most Smiths should be able to help you out with these problems.

Thanks....I have a case-colored trigger and hammer on the way. Once they get here, I'll have someone fit them and then just mod the sight with a larger screw. Thanks
