I think I'm going to customize my model 19. I want to get it reblued with a high polish but since this shooting in Newtown, I'm afraid that being S&W is busy, it will take a long time for them to get the work done. Has anyone recently had their gun reblued and how long was the wait time? I have to give them a call but I figured I would ask here as well. I also would like to have them time a cylinder I want to put in it. When I'm done with it, I think most of you would like the looks of it. I'm going to do what I can and leave the rest to the professionals.

Thanks, James

Just sent in my 28-2 for refinishing. Was told they're right out straight and turn around will probably be about 12 weeks. Also I wanted a high polish rebluing. They no longer do the old high polish blue apparently due to environmental concerns with the chemicals involved. The high polish on their web page is for nickel type finisheds. for blue there's Black Pentrate which is what I'm getting. supposedly polishes to s high shine.

You can cut the time down by a few weeks if you include your C.C. number and leave a signed note telling them to do it.

The other choice is that they put your job on hold till someone calls you for a OK then you go back in line.

Really? That is some great inside information! I'm not in any hurry but I do not want to wait six or more months for it.

Darn!!! I wanted the old style blueing. What does the new blueing look like compared to the old? I have not seen the newer blue guns in person yet and nor do I own any with a high polish. All my revolvers are 80's and older with the exception of the M&P R8.

They told me that If you don't need anything except the refinish you can save time by enclosing your check for the refinish amount plus return shipping. Because I think that the revolver is in good shape mechanically, I did that but asked them to tell me if they felt it needed anything else. They always fire a gun before returning t so they'll know if it needs any repairs.

Apparently closer to black than the old blue but SW says it polishes up nicely.

I would like to see it when you get it back. Now I'm hesitant to get it blued by S&W. I want the old style bluing and not a black-black gun if you know what I mean. Maybe Colt still does the old style blueing?

James

I'll post pics when it gets back but as I said, it may be 12 weeks. I don't think it's totally black, maybe more of a dark dark blue? I hope. But everywhere I've read, the word is that SW does outstanding refinishing. Interestingly enough, the guy I talked to at SW said he could give me thst name(s) of where the old type finish could be done but I elected to stay with SW. Good luck.

The problem I have is no one around here has any of the newer classic guns so I have no idea what they look like in person.

I may be confused but I think it's the "bluing" that's on all of the new SW's. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Prior to presenting the Mrs her Dads off duty ( 38 Chief Spl, circa'64) I sent it to S & W for a hi gloss blue job. The gun was in fair shape, but Wow...when it got back, what a job. I am not sorry I decided to send it to the factory rather than to another refinisher.

The worst part, I was told 6 weeks, it took a little over 4 months. It was worth it IMHO.

How long ago was
that? My understanding was that they no longer do the high gloss blue...

I do not believe Colt would refinish/work on a S&W. Pete

Spoke with SW Customer Service this AM. I was told re: wait time, that they're about 6 weeks out at the moment before they even look at the gun for an estimate. Which is about what we've been saying. He also confirmed that Black Pentrate is the only choice for rebluing blue guns.

Could you post up some pictures?
