Here in Columbia about a week ago four men between the ages of 17 and 20 called in a fake pizza order. When the driver arrived they started to attack him. He pulled his gun and fired killing a 17 year old. Wasn't charged and had a CCW.

It's been in the news here off and on since it happened about two weeks ago. Should be able to read about it at www.thestate.com/local/story/726861.html if interested.

The victim is taking it pretty hard but was in fear for his life. The local paper linked above just made things worse for him by pulling the 911 call and posting it and getting it on TV. Almost everyone commenting about it agrees he did the right thing.

I'm looking into getting one myself since I go to the bank often to make business deposits. Allot of crime here has been happening around bank deposits and ATM's.

i saw that story. it is regrettable that someone died, especially someone so young. but those guys should have thought about the consequences of their actions before carrying out a robbery.

Wife and I often go to the ATM together. She withdraws money. I sit in the passenger seat and pull 360 degree security. The mirror on the inside of the visor is very handy for this.

And this is exactly why I applied for a CCW permit in the first place. Tragic as it is, I have zero sympathy for the kid who died or his family, and nothing but kudos to Miller who attempted to flee, but was forced to shoot.

I agree. Unfortunately one of the dead kids friends is posting there blaming Mr. Miller for not firing a warning shot, or shooting him in the leg instead. Unbelievable.

My daughter attends University of South Carolina in Columbia.

I thank Miller for his response to the threat on his life. I wish him the best in personally dealing with this situation created by the scumbag criminals. He did the right thing!

Wouldn't do you any good in NC since the law says bank carry is a No-No; which I think is rather dumb since the good guys are not the ones they need to worry about anyway and the bad guys are going to do it regardless of the law.

In Michigan a few months ago, a licensed CCW holder stopped a bank robbery. He held the would be robber at gunpoint for police. I sure hope my southern friends get that North Carolina law fixed.

I originally didn't read the article myself, but my wife told me about it over dinner shortly after it happened. I do hate that a young man lost his life and I'm almost certain the victim does. However, robbing someone isn't a game either and as I see it he got what was coming to him. It seems like almost every night we hear about someone being carjacked, robbed, killed etc on our local news. It's a sad state of affairs and a real shame that some people feel the need to commit crimes but some of us have prepared ourselves and choose not to be their victims.
