Yep, none other than Russia's own Vladimir Putin. Story behind the photo can be found here.

I recently read The Hunters, the 3rd book in WEB Griffin's "Presidential Agent" Series.
He mentions some of Putin's background in the KGB in this book.
I wondered how much was fiction and how much was based on fact.
Guess he did his homework.

You guys are just way too suspicious. Mr. Putin could have been just out for a walk, saw the commotion and came over to take old Ron's photograph.

Or not.

At least he has a period-correct Russian-made Kiev camera, typical for a Soviet "tourist" who might be affluent enough to afford a camera (though crude by world-wide standards). (My guess is the KGB used much higher-end stuff for their "real" surveillance.)

Of course they would never even think of doing that now!

What semi-competent intelligence service wouldn't do that? Certainly that's something our boys would never do (or continue to do).

From reading the article, it sounded like the role played by the KGB "tourists" was to make Pres. Reagan look bad by asking complex questions he presumably would not be prepared to respond to, and may blurt out something classified.

I am hoping our guys can come up with something a little more high tech or at least more creative.

KGB salary not enough to buy the Dork a belt or is that part of the undercover/casual look??
He turns my stomach.
Pete

Is it certain that is Putin? (Not that it matters... I'm just curious.) The article says the Rooskies deny it even today, as I understood it. Should be clear enough for anyone who knows Putin from his younger pix.
