I recently purchased a 686 Plus Pro Series 5" revolver. Unfortunately I'm having a difficult time finding a holster that will fit. First, I have only found a holster to fit a 5" N frame gun which may be too big. All 686 holsters fit either 4 or 6 inch models. I don't know if the 6 inch will be too loose or not, not only in length but my barrel doesn't have the full lug under it. Also, the cylinder holds seven. Any recommendation will be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Go to El Paso Saddlery. Select the holster you prefer. When you fill out the order form you will be able to specify exactly what length barrel you have on your revolver. They will produce it to your specifications. Lobo Leather would also doubtless.be able to handle you request for a holster to fit your five inch. 686.

Try finding a 3", I finally ordered a PMK from Milt Sparks. Had to wait about two months but now have a perfect fit for my 686 plus Talo.

I strongly recommend Lobo. Not only did I get exactly what I wanted for my 1917 reproduction (22-4), the holster was actually usable for carry. This is the advantage of buying from someone with real experience (and the knowledge to put the experience to use).

+1 on El Paso Saddlery. They use the best materials with excellent craftsmanship. I'm thinking seriously of getting a western holster for a 6" 629, or possibly the style they made for General Patton. I have no illusions about concealing that hog leg.

You won't be very happy with a generic holster. They don't fit well, and don't carry well on a belt - generally loose and floppy. You spend nearly as much as for a custom holster. The only advantage is availability without a long wait.

Besides El Paso Saddlery, look at Ryan Grizzle's ware, also high grade leather and craftsmanship, with an emphasis on long service and concealability. A 5" barrel is a little long for IWB, but a Sparks VM2 would be the best choice. I have two VM2s for 3" revolvers, L and N frame, which work smoothly and are comfortable. For 4" or so, a pancake holster is a good option. Avoid a high-ride. You have to be a contortionist to draw a long-barreled revolver from under your armpit.

I like Lobo's Enhanced Pancake model. If I were planning to carry my 686 concealed, that's the route I'd go. (Concealed for me is covering it up with my shirt tail.)

As much as I like my revolvers, I'm just not ready yet to give up my 1911's as EDC weapons.

I got 2 Bianci Cyclone holsters a month or so ago from Optics Planet. via Amazon.com 1 was for a 6" k frame and the other is a 3" k frame. I use that on for my 2" 10-7 and my 3" m-13. Fit on both are nice and tight. The sizing chart will narrow down the right one for you. A local gun store here sells them for $106.00 but Optics Planet sells them $65.00+ free shipping.
