recommended nite-sights for shield

Another vote here for the Trijicon HD's with yellow front as that's what I have and like them a lot.

New old guy here. I just received a set of XS Big Dot sights to be installed on my Shield 9mm. Don't yet know how they will work. Will get them installed this week. Looks like they will be a good addition for my Shield.

Hi Bob,

Many opinions on this site about sights. As for the XS Big Dots. I have them on mine, and they work real well for me. I'm 64, and since my Shield is EDC quick target acquisition was important. In my humble opinion, the Big dots were/are the answer for me. I've had a couple of my friends shoot the gun, and they liked and agreed with the sights. They might take a little time getting use to, but I think you'll find them very handy.

Here's the "real deal". I didn't buy the Shield to be a target pistol to shoot 2 inch groups at 25 yards or better. I can do that at 5, 7 and 9 yards with the Shield, but... In my opinion, if you are shooting at people in self defense at ranges over 15 yards, you should not be in that position.

Remember the Self Defense Cooper color code. Don't be in the "White" zone - or oblivious to your surroundings. Stay in the "Yellow" zone - relaxed but aware, and try to avoid "Orange" zone - Alert. That will hopefully keep you out of the "Red" zone.

Here's a link: Self Defense

BTW - according to my instructor during the CPL class, if you are firing at people at distances beyond 15 or 20 yards, you will probably be found to be negligent and endangering others. He also stated that it would be hard to defend in court to say you were in fear of your life. As some stories have been reported, you can't chase after robbers, and get in a gun fight. You can't follow perps in your car, and then get out branish or threaten with your gun. That is the job of Law Enforcement Officers. I'm off my soap box.

Enjoy you Big Dot sights, :-)

Trijicon HD in orange on my shield. Pricey but worth it I have the ameriglo I dot on my compact same front sight in Yellow/green. Little cheaper. Either are good Trijicon is just awesome super bright at night and good for range

Ditto
I have them on all my pistols, worth the money.

Trijicon HD. We have them on our duty pistols at work. Target acquisition is quick and easy.

a lot of great help & advice from all. now to re-think (after all this info) to replace the FO or not.

the TRL-6 is an interesting option but for me just seems a bit bulky...but that is just me and my thinkin, without even trying it...which isn't a fair call.

in daylight these FO are super. but i've grown used to night sights on my other semi-autos. without them, not something i want to carry or have next to bed. target acquisition with nite sights in day or nite is something i've gotten used to.

i can be taught new things though, so if got some thinkin to do.

thanks for all the advice!

If you are hell bent on tritium, there are many options. How much do you want to spend?

Ameriglos are nto too bad, I have the iDots on my 4.25"
Trijicons are not cheap, but good to go.
Truglo is not too bad either.

You can also look at Dawson. I have a set on order for my 5" CORE.

All righty now. Just got my Shield back from the gunsmith with the XS Big Dot sights installed. I must say that I like them! Even my lovely bride commented on how "cool" they looked. I will get it to the range soon and see how they shoot. The Big Dot front sight is no exaggeration. Easy for the eye to pick up and hold it.
