What's the go to mount for newer S&W revolvers that have the threaded three holes on the top strap under the rear sight?

Thinking of putting a red dot onto of my 617-6.

A mount as low as possible is nice.
Once I realized the importance of Parallels with a Mill,
mount making is fun.
Not long enough, but had that short laying around.
Will make a proper length one, eventually, for the
8"+ barreled 460.
Irons are on the 3.5" now.
Same mount with the RMR on the 63-3, for an accuracy test.
Wears irons now.
Will make the longer one, for the 8"+ 460, maybe a wee
bit lower, and have the sides of the mount, wrap around the
topstrap, for proper screw retention.

Making a low mount for the old Gold Cup, with Elliasons,
low and wrap around the slide top, is on the todo list.
Found out recently, that my Grandmother, on my Mom's side,
Elliason, was her maiden name.
Sadly, no shooting skills were inherited. ;)

Another vote for Allchin. Reasonably priced and they work well.

I think the "bees knees" for revolver red dots would be to talk Allchin into making one of his plates that will fit a Holosun Glock MOS optic. No batteries, good auto-adjust, very small, and green. Unfortunately, I emailed him about doing the above, and his answer was "nope". Bummer.

Someday, somebody is going to come up with a low-profile red dot revolver option and make a killing. Old guys like me would buy a dozen of them.

The Allchin is my favorite. I have ~8 of them with Burris Fastfire IIIs mounted. I bought one of my mounts on eBay. The little nylon alignment pins were missing. I called the number and John Allchin answered. He sent the pins n/c. He told me that the phone number was his cell phone. That kind of customer service isn’t found these days. Made me a customer for life.

Put a low mount Allchin on my 617, only problem is then finding a holster. Anyone have an answer for that?

Good question. I just got a nice Leather holster; my guess would be the need to look for a Kydex holster that can be modified.

My 617 solution. It's 6" 6-inch with the full underlug. A friend who is a skilled seamstress modified an extra-large Uncle Mikes for me (don't remember the size), cutting back the top front area to allow the red dot, and re-sewing the cup-shaped cutout to keep it reinforced. I decided I didn't like a belt carry for this heavy K-frame, and if I do carry it again, I want to get a modified fabric shoulder holster. She liked the 617, heavy barrel and all, bought one, and set hers up just like mine. I gave her the modified holster.
