Red Dot Powder

Found this older can of Red Dot powder. Any one know how old it is and should I open an use or leave sealed? Any ideas what its worth sealed or empty?

Open and use it. Worth about 15 bucks in cash..the can will still be worth about 10 bucks or maybe more after you use it. From the mid 60s or so. The powder is almost certainly still good. I have about 10 cans exactly like that one..except they are Unique cans. I use it in 45 Colt and others... BTW The red dots may have faded and have become covered with the graphite in the powder. I have an old 15 lb keg of Red Dot that I am using.. slowly..from 1970

One thing nice about Red Dot powder and the 9mm case......

It is almost like using 4831 powder in rifle loading. It is so
bulky that it fills the case up in a hurry and when it gets near
the base of the bullet when seated it is near a maximum load.

A double charge will not happen and you need to compress a charge to get into some serious pressures in a small 9mm case.
4.8grs of powder is very noticeable.

Hey Ed,
Not being a serious 9mm reloader...I just got a 4 lb green dot. Haven't looked for any loading data for the 9..is it(GD) a decent powder for the 9mm? I just acquired a large amount(about 14000) of jacketed bullets for the 9mm..mostly 115 and 124 HPs. I also have about a 1000 147 gr HPs. will load them for the suppressed sub gun. Plenty of 9mm brass here too. Also picked up my first 40 S&W ..a S&W M&P..going to have to load for another cartridge now I guess. This last weekend at the gun show was an expensive experience
