I've been searching for a red dot sight for model my 41 and I'm having difficulty making a decision. My primary use will be for bullseye shooting and some hunting. I'm kind of leaning towards the Nikon Monarch VSD Red Dot due primarily to its physical size, however, I have no clue to its quality. I'm curious as to what red dot scopes others are using and would appreciate any suggestions. I don't mind spending a couple of bucks as long as the quality is good and will work for my applications.
Thanks.

I use an UltraDot L/T (4 MOA dot) with a BME mount on mine. Same set up on my M52. They are very light and have an excellent field of view.

They work great for bullseye and plates.

I would recommend the Ultra-Dot "Match dot". Crisp clear optics and it allows you to switch dot sizes 2, 4, 6 and 8 MOA. I have one on my model 41 which I use for "steel challenge" type matches. I also have one on my colt Anaconda for hunting. I don't shoot bullseye, but have seen quite a number of the bullseye shooters at our club using the Ultra-Dot on both their .22 and their .45.

I use a 1" 4moa Ultra Dot on my 22's for Bullseye . You can spend more if you want multiple size dot & / or a 30mm tube . The Aimpoint is very rugged , has best optics but has fixed dot size . These 2 makes dominate Bullseye . Aimpoints are the most expensive but are the best quality . Aimpoint has best optics , are fully waterproof & are milspec durable . It comes down to what you want & what you're willing to spend .

another vote for UltraDot. I've had one on a Ruger Mk III and one on a Marlin 1894 .44 Magnum and they are both the bee's knees. Lightweight, adjustable, good optical clarity, reliable.

Yet another vote for the Ultra-Dot L/T. It really fits the 41 well without a lot of weight and the size/scale is durn near perfect for the 41.

The battery replacement is easy as well as it's in a small 'drawer' and does not require removal of the sight to replace batteries....thus no need to re-sight.

IIRC, it was about $205 shipped from ultradotwest.com.

I gotta roll with the Aimpoint. I have had one on my Ruger MK II, in a B-Square mount for over 20 yrs w/o a problem.

One problem I have with the screen style sights is that I'm right-handed/left-eye dominant. My left eye will pull me off target so I stay with the tube type dots where my left eye doesn't see the dot. I've had good luck with the Millett Red Dots, I prefer the smaller 1" 3-MOA dot for Bullseye.

I have a Docter Optic 4 minute red dot reflex sight on my short barrel.

Top quality glass and aluminum construction. No plastic.

Makes for a nice shooting setup.

For bulleseye pistol shooting with a 22 semi auto pistol my ideal was an older Tasco ProPoint with the BIG DOT (ca 10 inch). The dot almost covered the black of the target. You knew if you pulled the triger when the dot was anywhere in the black that you had either a 9 or 10. I shot a S&W 41,then a Walther GSP and finally a Pardini SP. I also shot a Pardini HP in 32 S&WL for the centerfire stage with the same Tasco Big Dot Pro Point. In the 45 stage I used a S&W945 with a 7 inch Docter red dot mounted on the slide. The large/mjultiple dot Ulytradot 30mm is also a good choice in 22LR - I cannot vouch for how well it stands up in CF.

I went through three other brands of red-dot's before I finally admitted defeat and bought the Ultra-dot Match-dot I should have bought in the first place. I like a very small dot in red, and the Match-dot has worked excellently on both my target .22 (Hammerli) and my Smith 686+.

I don't have a 41 anymore (which is a move I regret), but get something small and high quality. It's a great gun and deserves a great optic. If you get something too big it just takes away from the gun.

I'm currently running a MatchDot on my HS Victor, and I love it. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

That said, I am currently shooting a "cheap" (about $40) BSA red dot on my 41 mainly because I wanted to experiment and see how well a smaller red-dot would work.
It works well, and while I get a ghost dot image, I'm reasonably sure that it's because of my astigmatism and not the scope.

If you're forcibly frugal, the BSA is a good choice, but my next move for the 41 is to either go with another MatchDot or Ultradot (never a bad choice), or to try one of the compact red-dots which would most likely be the J-point.

I'm looking forward to the day when red-dot technology finally gives us a red-dot sight that ends up about the size of a Bomar open sight. Still waiting... ;)

fastfire II

i have a fastfire II on my sig 226 (9mm). it mounts directly on the slide using the dovetail for the rear sight. for the life of me i can't figure out hout the sight handles the recoil, but it does.
very clear dot (4mil) uses a 2032 battery. holds zero. weighs 1.5 oz. the lens is a little larger than a nickle. would like to set it up on the 41 like it is on the sig. have also seen one on a fn 5.7 using a custom mount....

Red Dot Sight

I received the C-more STS 3.5 today mounted it and took it to the range the dot is bright easy to see on automatic. Sighted it in and shot the first rounds thru my Clark Custom 41.It was windy shot pretty well at 50 yards. It did shoot one group a little over 1/2 inch at 35 yards with black Eley.I was impressed and It was off a rest I really liked the C-more.just my opinion.Joe

I've owned Ultra Dots over the years. I've owned over a dozen. I have some slide mounted on 1911's. They hold up very well. When I was deciding on a red dot scope I wanted something light weight, reliable, repeatable click windage and elevation adjustments, affordable, and with support. Those requirements, especially weight, eliminated a lot of otherwise very good red dots.

I don't have a lot of experience with other brands, but the Bushnell red-dot I have on my 617 has been problem-free and is easy to use.
