I am thinking about a Red Dot for USPSA/IDPA carry optics divisions but I have no experience with red dots yet other than handling at the LGS. I am thinking going w the Legion 226RX. Any feedback and experiences on the forum? How about the 3 MOA dot size on the standard Romeo1? Is that the right dot? I don't think they even offer a different size? Application will be quick pickup between 7 and 20 yards, typical USPSA stages. Thanks for any suggestions and comments.

I've been using a reflex red dot (3moa) for a couple of years in a inter club level bullseye league. I have a Vortex Venom mounted on the rail of my Marvel Precision Unit#1 .22 Conversion Unit. I'm a big fan of reflex red dots. 3moa at 25 yards is the perfect size dot for the distance. My optic rail is fixed-it doesn't move with the cycling of the slide. You would want a robust sight that would take the punishment of the slide movement if you mount it on the slide.

I believe that the 226 Legion will only be compatible with the Romeo1. I like that it has an auto off feature after 60-120 seconds. I don't like that Sig only covers the optic Isnt exactly covered under their lifetime warranty(electro optics only guaranteed for 5 years).

If you were to go a different route with your gun then you have lots of other optic choices. Vortex, Leupold, Trijicon, Burris, Meprolight, Swampfox(pretty cool green reticle) all have good options and most have great warranties.

Thanks for your comments...I was just thinking to get the P226RX straight from the box, nothing further needed. Trigger is great, I love 226s and the Romeo comes already on it. I see all other dots in that range offer the same 3 MOA and Romeo1 users tend to comment positively. Like to get my feet wet w/o sending slides off for milling and other shenanigans.

Unfortunately for me I have the P226 Legion SAO (love it) and I could just add the Romeo slide to it but then the operatives in both IDPA/USPSA decided that a single action only platform can not be allowed in the carry optics devision...they should be impeached and removed from office.

Blurring is all what I wonder. I am farsighted but do not see as well up close. I am wondering if a 3 MOA is too large and get blurry.

For any kind of action shooting game "time" is the biggest part of the score. Finding the dot in the sight is more difficult with a smaller dot. The 3 Minute dot is great for out to 25 yards for "Slow Precision" shooting. To be able to pick up the dot rapidly I wouldn't recommend anything smaller than a 6 Minute. Keep in mind that is 6 min (inches) at 100 yards, so at 25 yards the dot only appears to be 1.5" on the target. If your eyes can find a 1.5" dot in a multicolored background "rapidly", you're a lot better than most.

Thanks Richard. Reading a bit more, the blurring seems to be more related to astigmatism than dot size. I don't think I have that but again, no experience gaming with one yet.

We have the Trijicon 3.25 and the Leupold DPP Triangle.
Slight blurring/distortion with astigmatism but not an issue.
We use them on long and short arms.
The Sig kit sounds like a good way to get started.

Thanks, not exactly a cheap way to get started but painless as far as I anticipate. The sights should precisely co-wittness which is important to me learning with it.

Just looked at the Sig price at BassPro.
I bought the 2 sights to fit to a variety of firearms/bows.
Business and pleasure.

Too bad the frame ain't Steel!!!
Only have a P239 in 9mm which is a rarely used but is a keeper.

Co-witness is a plus.

I was debating retrofitting a legion Romeo slide to my stainless elite german frame but somehow I dont like the idea running my German SSE so hard with a 15 years younger slide...just doesn't feel right.

I prefer holosun 2moa dots specifically the 503gu holosun model. It has the capability to be switched between a 2 moa dot and a 65 moa circle with 2 moa dot inside of it like the eotechs have. It makes for super fast target acquisition.

Not sure about the sig being able to accept a different sight or not, but you will see most people use a 6 moa for in USPSA on open and C/O guns. Quick Target acquisition, and you can pick up the dot quicker for a quicker first shot time. Vortex Venom in 6moa is a good starting point if you can get it to work on your piece. Smith and Wesson CORE9 is a good piece, and you can run a Vortex on it. I ran a GLOCK 17 MOS with a venom and it was a good setup. Lots of guys were running the CORE9.
