I've had good luck with Marvel Mystery Oil for miscellaneous cleaning projects restoring old motorcycles. Its exact formulation is a trade secret but is widely believed to be 50% light mineral oil and 50% Stoddard Solvent. Stoddard Solvent contains a fair amount of toluene that the oil keeps in solution so it doesn't vaporize. So far it hasn't melted anything of mine.
