Hey everyone! Is it still sacrilege if it looks good? Picked up this 1907 back in 2020 during the great panic buy. When I got it the bluing was maybe 10% (small spec of blue behind the safety left) but in overall great condition. Well, got into caustic bluing and got blasting cabinet and took a chance. Gotta say, I think it turned out great. A few months later, browsing Reddit and I see another savage owner talking about how deformed his firing pin was and was having safety issues. Decided to take a peek at mine and found identical damage. For those not aware, the firing pin is supposed to be symmetrical and round, not wedge shaped. I looked around online and it seemed that most were old stock and were either worn themselves or would become after some use. Well since I have a CNC and some 4140, I made a new one! (And then some). Looks like I’ll get a lot more life out of the new pin and it’s been functioning great so far. Anyone else here ever made new parts for their pistols?IMG_3464.jpegIMG_4069.jpegIMG_4077.jpeg

Looks good!
Those old Savages are cool.
Thanks! I couldn’t find a whole lot of others online that were refinished, but I’m glad I did. Glass bead did a great job cleaning it up and caustic bluing is such a great finish. Kinda sad to learn about the firing pin issue making these have problems like hammer follow, but I’m selling the newly machined pins now for those who want them.

Well, here's one that hasn't been refinished and I'd say yours looks quite nice by comparison - in execution and original matching.

The hammer and FP arrangement are interesting on this little gun. And who knew double stack mags had been around for so long.
