I bought some WSF winchester powder today to start loading 9mm....not knowing that this powder is only good for fmj and hp.....115 gr....but i wanted to load some 115gr roundnose...it does nt list this powder for the roundnose...and i have 250 berrys roundnose bullets...should i not use the powder or just go to 124gr....either way i ll end up buying more powder or different bullets?

Load plated bullets to low to medium jacketed data for the same weight. I just loaded over 10K 115 gr. plated RN bullets and used 4.6 grs. of Titegroup. The jacketed data I used was for a Speer GDHP from the Hodgdon website. Data was 4.5 to 4.8 and an oal of 1.25. I used 4.6 with a oal of 1.130 to 1.135 and they are the best shooting .9mm rounds I have ever loaded. Start at the low end and make 10 or so rounds at the min. from your data and then load 10 of each of the data thru the middle range for the jacketed bullets and shoot them. Make sure they cycle your gun. Check for pressure and accuracy and pick the one you like the best.

Plated and Jacketed bullets respond to charge levels with nearly identical results. So, you can freely interchange plated and jacketed bullets as long as you pay attention to 2 distinct factors. One is the velocity, most manufacturers of plated bullets recommend velocities be limited to 1200 fps or less. Personally, out of conservatism, I keep my velocities with plated bullets to 1100 fps or less. The second is the overall length of the bullet. In some cases different profiles will result in the bullets having a different length at a particular bullet weight. However, I've never personally seen a variance of more than 0.02 inch at any particular weight for a solid base bullet so I will sometimes load my initial test loads a bit long.

Absolutely correct and accurate information. The only "major" variable in oal would result from using a different profile as in a hollow point or truncated cone etc.

go to Hodgdon.com

they are the very first 115gr bullets listed.

Sure are!

115 GR. FMJ
Winchester WSF
1.169" OAL
4.9gr. 1060fps 24,200 PSI
5.7gr. 1195fps 31,900 PSI

To the OP: As others have said, anywhere you see FMJ data, you can use it for PRN but start in the low to midrange.

I've been buying my components locally.
They may no have exactly the specific item I want, but they have an acceptable equivalent, which is more than the online sources tend to have.
