Reloading componets

If you have not been watching prices and ammo it would be great time to get componets. I mean powder I know its high but the way things can turn on a dime it better to get it while you can and also get a few molds for the stuff you shoot and if you can find them wheel weights as linotype I suspect it has been gone for years. But with the ammo whom is capable of making their own will have a leg up on folks that do not reload. I have got my cousin some dies, shell holder and 80 225 win. brass and 78 Sierra 224 bullets from a fellow here on the forum for 150.00 and he was thrilled to get them. When I first went to work in 1961 in a machine shop we had orange shop towels that said "Alert today alive tomorrow" that still holds true today. Lay up supplies if you can get them. Jeff

I buy primers at 3 cents a piece. At today's (up to) a dollar a piece I think reloading is out of the question for a newby.

I think what the OP is saying it is a great time to get components even though the price is high because down the road they may be higher or not be available at any price.
My thinking is that he may be correct but I'm too poor to buy at todays prices and poor people have too do poor ways. Larry

....even primers. But primers are my weakest point and I'm going to have to hope at some point some will be available at an affordable price.

Just sold an 8 pound jug of Varget for $380.00. I have a couple more. Was a little hesitant about asking that but the local GS store was at 380 so I matched it. Think I paid $130 a jug.

I have way more of everything than I need for the rest of my reloading days, primers included. Mostly Federal match.

Just got a couple boxes of 168 Bergers and 2000 Hornady .224 SPBT's. All you have to do is exhibit some patience and wait a while.

The Lake City match brass is all prepped, annealed, FL sized, STS media cleaned and primed with Federal small rifle match primers. Just need filled with 322 (have a wad of that) and bullets inserted. When I get time.

Also sold 1000 .223's last week, 95 cents a pop. Got way more than I'll ever need, as in thousands.

Never thought I'd see this, kind of reminds me of the Obama days when I sold 3 AK's at a gun show in the parking lot for 500 bucks each. Paid 200 each for them.\

Powder Purchase

I have good reserves of powder, primers... but I had a day off today and went to my local Cabelas'. Zero powder, primers and only ammo was very obscure calibers. Went 15 miles to a LGS and they also had zero reloading supplies. Went another 20 miles to a Sportco warehouse and they had just put out 1lb. cans of Hodgdon Long Shot. Only powder on the shelf. I was not familiar with this powder so I did a quick phone Google search and saw some load data for calibers I have. Limit 2 at $28.00 a lb. which seemed pretty reasonable.

Just about any powder (besides talcum powder) at $28/lb these days is probably worth grabbing. What do you plan to use the Long Shot for? It’s not one I’ve tried, but in this day and age it might be one I’ll look at.

Long Shot on the powder burn scale is between Win572, Blue Dot, & 2400. Based on that, true magnum loads for 41 magnum and 44 magnum. Too slow for most handgun calibers and too fast for rifle calibers.

Stabilizing

I believe the shortage of Ammo and Reloading Components is
stabilizing. I've been to several Stores this week and items are
showing up.

One Store has 10 50ct Bags of 6.8 Western, Brass. I've seen
various boxes of Hornady, Berger, and Sierra Reloading Bullets
in .22, .270, .30 calibers.

There is even Shotgun Primers. Ammo was the Creedmoor
Man Bun stuff, Buckshot, 7mm Mag., 22lr, and oh yea,
seen 6 sets of RCBS 6.5 Creedmoor dies.

One place I frequent, there is .22Lr, 9mm, 45ACP, and other
stuff.

Even the New Leupold HD3 scopes and others.

Got these the other day, a Brick (1000 primers) for $31.95.

An hour or so ago I stopped by a local dealer. They had some 9mm FMJ bullets in 1000 ct boxes.

I was so startled by the price I can't even remember what weight they were.

They were $210 per box. Ouch!

I read that as being bullets, not loaded ammunition ... but, I could easily be mistaken.

100 CCI Regular Velocity 22lr

Not seeing much improvement in SW Washington; it actually has worsened since November 3rd. I am finding a little here and there, but it definitely takes persistence and time.

Happened to be hovering over my phone yesterday when the email came in ... scored 2 lbs of N140 and a couple hundred D166 bullets for the Dragunov from MWUSA. Can't stock up in this climate, but on occasion, you can fill some gaps.

I think the reference was about the Explosia plant that formerly made AA powders.
That plant no longer makes powders for Accurate, but the formulas are used to manufacture powders for Shooters World.

Same powders under a different name.

I see lots of ammo in local shops around me, problem is, nobody is buying, because it's way to expensive..... sooner or later , they will have to reduce their prices, just wait it out.
