Reloading costs

Saving money per round is exactly what got me started reloading 45 ACP! Now, truth be told, I shoot a lot more because it's affordable so I may not save a ton but I shoot three times as much as I use to for the same price. I would check out Xtreme bullets. Their plated bullets are a great price and the prices you see are what you pay. No extra shipping or tax on top of the price!

If you order 500 230g RN it's $58 which puts you at $0.116 a bullet. Even if you don't buy primers in bulk it's $4 for 100 so once you reuse your brass you are looking at approx. $16 for 100 rounds which is way cheaper than Walmart ammo. Granted I didn't calculate powder but it doesn't add much.

I just ordered 500 from them. They won't ship for 2 weeks, but the price is tough to beat. For those of you that only shoot jacketed, here is a pretty decent price:

I'm reading a book about reloading and the author conducted an experiment where he selected 50 rifle cases and reloaded them 10 each with 5 different powders to see how long they would last. He kept them separated and reloaded each with the same powder, over and over.

As of the writing in the book, the experiment was in year 10 (TEN) and he still had 49 of 50 cases!

For me though, in rifle calibers, I never trim them but twice after the original set up is one rule I have. And when the caliber is large and the load is hotter, then I may go 3 or 5 loadings. Maybe only a fireform and one shot if it is up at maximum.

I dont re-anneal any cases though as some may do. Of course if I was loading a 470 Nitro Express then I might very well start doing that.

I have heard of and seen 45 ACP shooters that have reloaded those 45 ACP cases so much the stamps are worn off . If I can get 10 loadings, like on mild 38s then I have done well.
