I have some friends who want to start reloading for their gen 4 G22's. I know in the past lead was a big no-no for Glocks with factory barrels. I also know there were concerns about bulged brass with Glock .40's. Has any of this changed? Are there any special concerns about reloading for Glock .40's?

Any input y'all might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You cannot shoot lead even in a Gen 4 Glock because of the polygonal rifling.

Current .40 chambers give more support than the originals.
Still need to follow manuals and not go overpressure.

No problems with an unsupported chamber in my G22 3rd gen. I have no issues with fired brass. Still you are advised to NOT shoot lead through a polygonal barrel. If you insist on shooting lead buy an aftermarket barrel with standard rifling.

Loading for a glock really isn't diff than any other caliber. Stick to book loads, don't push max, no special attention is needed. Even the lead bullet warning is caution, I know lots of guys loading lead bullets. You just have to clean the bbl more often.

I shot a lot of cast lead bullets from my G-22 with no problems, but you have to know how to reload with lead vs. jacketed. The technique is a little different. If done right, you will not get leading. -- Since you are just starting out, buy the plated or jacketed bullets and use standard load data from the manuals. -- Good luck

I have one of the first Gen 2s and have never had a problem. I encourage you to heed the advice on not shooting lead out of a factory Glock barrel. I got an after market barrel with conventional rifling for shooting lead. My favorite powder for .40S&W is Accurate #5.

I've a Gen 3 and have never had a problem with it. I don't do lead, not for any reason, just never got into it.
I do shoot a lot of plated, cheap as the lead with out the leading.

Bulging, what bulging? Never been a problem.. load and go..

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. We will stick to mid-range reloads with jacketed (or plated) bullets and drive on!
