Mine works pretty well on 9mm and up. When I started loading .32 S&W, .32 H&R and .327 FM, the jaws wouldn’t consistently hold the rim. I just bought the version that takes the shell holder for .32. I’m happy with my RCBS stuff, but I know what you mean about “universal”.

Universal works just fine for 38 spl, 9mm and larger cartridges. 30 and 32 not so much. I have both std and universal. I keep the std with shell holder set up for the smaller cartridges. Changing out shell holders is a PIA with the std RCBS primer tool but I batch prime so I don't have to change it very often.

Universal all too often means not real good at anything or everything.

I love the RCBS Universal tool. I load everything from 32-20 up to 45 and 260 Rem with it. Works perfectly well for me, except now the 45AR which won't fit. The 32-20 is the only one you have to really be careful not to get a flyer with.

Don't mean to steal the thread but I do have a question. I've been using the RCBS hand priming tool for years and love it. Never tried the Lee, so I can't comment. However, I just bought a bunch of 45 Auto Rim brass so I wouldn't need moon clips to load my model 25. Problem is, the base of the case is so thick it won't fit in the hand priming tool, so I have to dig out the old primer set up for my press and prime them that way. This is a bigger PIA than loading the moon clips. Anyone out there using a hand primer for 45 Auto Rim? If so, which one? I'd like to find one that works with that cartridge.

I use an RCBS hand priming tool for 45 Auto Rim. It works perfectly with Shell Holder #8 (RCBS). If you're using an older RCBS shell holder, that's most likely why you're having problems. You need to get the current version of the RCBS #8.

I've seen several mention the RCBS with the universal shell holder jaws but no one mentioned the APS strip system which is the RCBS I have and love! I even have mastered the skill of using the RCBS strip loader for primers that don't come already loaded!

I had to use that strip loader on my RCBS progressive (2000?) some years ago. It worked fairly well. I'm not sure if you could buy the loaded strips when I got my press. I think I had to load them with a device that came with the press.

I have the older LEE hand primer tool. I broke three handles that lee replaced I still use it even though I have the new lee hand primer still in the box.
