As most people know I am the proud owner of an original 44/357 Bain and Davis S&W. Well I cracked the code on how to reload it. I'm in love. So here is my question. If I take a 629 and replace the cylinder and barrel with a 686 will it work? Line up?

Nope. The 686 is an L frame and the 629 is an N frame. The cylinder diameter on the L frames is smaller than the N frame. Probably the easiest way to get a 44/357 B&D would be to find a 627 and have the cylinder rechambered to 44/357 cartridge.

I would but I want the full lug and don't like the look unfortunately. Any other ideas?

After the first couple generations of 627, aren't they all full lug?

There are 627 full lugs out there. The 627-0 and 627-2 being two issues. However, there were not many made and are expensive when you find one. I would get a spare cylinder and have it fitted and rechambered for 44/357. I would also have a new yoke with the new cylinder so it is easier to fit and change to the original cylinder.

If I could find a new model 27 I would use that but it seems like they were everywhere and now you can't find them.
