Today is the eighth anniversary of the murderous rampage of the cowardly jihadist Nidal Hasan at Fort Hood in Texas. Please remember our fallen brothers and sisters in your prayers.

I agree. Is anyone privy to why this bum is still alive? He was found guilty in a military court and sentenced to death. And not by old age.

I am guessing the families of those killed and wounded are wondering the same thing.

Wait long enough and some college law professor and his social justice students will twist and fabricate the ruling to free the murderer.

Heck by that time Nidal Hassan will be promoted to Brigadier General with full bennies and back pay.

Don't really have to be privy to reasons. Yes, he was sentenced to death, but keep in mind there has been no active duty service member executed since 1961...56 years ago.

In military cases, there are several mandatory appeal stages, and a military death sentence requires final approval by the president, as commander in chief.

A civilian attorney who has assisted Hasan in his legal matters says that the appeals process could go on for decades. He received the death sentence in 2013...that's only four years ago. The chances of Hasan actually being executed are about as close to zero as you can get.

Keep in mind, also, that Hasan is paralyzed from the chest down...the result of being shot by military personnel. The chances are actually better that he'll die from some medical issue rather than being executed.

I marked the reason for the delays. These cases keep lawyers in big bucks for their entire lives!!! Some even pass them on to their heirs as legacy!!!

Really? Who is paying for the lawyers in this case? Can you name a few other cases of attorneys who got rich off the life long defense of a capital case?

The appeals are mandatory. It doesn't matter one bit if the defense attorney is a civilian or not, or how much the attorney will be paid for services rendered.

Delays are part of the appeals process, whether they're in a military court or a civilian court. They're to be expected. Any defense attorney worth a hoot will use every tactic available to delay their client's execution.

There are currently six inmates (including Hasan) currently on the U. S. military's death row. Two of them have been there since 1988.

I can almost guarantee you the attorney defending Hasan isn't getting rich off the case.
