I can remember when nobody even wanted 22 LR.

I can't believe they were that price then, unless it was a real loss leader. Back in the later 60s and early 70s I bought .22 LR (mainly CCI, sometimes Peters) in large wholesale case lots for about 50 cents per box. Back when I was in high school in the 1950s, .22 Shorts were about a quarter per box at the local general store. That's all I could afford. I think LRs were about .35/box.

If that says $1.39 (it is a brick of 500) it comes out to .00278

I remember the days when any 22 ammo you wanted was .99/box 50 or $9.99/brick. On sale .79 - .89/box 50. And you could buy all you wanted! If I'd only known.... And I could reload 38 special ammo for $2.50/box 50--sigh :-(

I would tend to think a sticker from a single box found it's way on the outside of the brick. That box probably dates from the 70's to the 80's. Bricks were selling for $7 to $9 back then.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

You might want to check your math again.
$1.39/500 = $0.00278

~$0.003 = 0.3 cents/round (since 1 cent is 1/100 of a dollar), or ~1/3 cent per round, not three one-thousandths of a cent per round.

.003 cents per round would mean the 500 round brick cost 1.5 cents.

I've still got a few Bricks of Winchester Wildcats that I paid $9.99 for on sale - and that was not all that long ago! maybe 5 -6 years or so if memory serves. I believe I bought them at Sports Authority when they did sell ammo.
