For those who don't remember, about a year ago I corrupted a very anti-gun European socialist by taking him to the range. He is now a NRA member, and gun owner. He in turn asked me this weekend to take a friend of his to the range.
Tom, the friend who had never fired a gun before took to it like a duckling to water. Today he called and said that he had just bought a Springfield XD and wanted to try it this coming
weekend. He also wanted to know if his wife could come along (another victim). The Socialist neighbors wife now says that if Tom's wife goes, she want to also.
Tom has also called a NRA instructor to take a basic handgun safety course so that he could get his CCW eventually.
It is satisfying to see their face when they realize that the device in their hands did not turn them into serial killers.
We just need to knock em over one at a time.

I took one shooting a week ago. She loved the Remington 870 shotgun, and is buying one. Unfortunately, despite my advice not to talk politics, she couldn't resist and couldn't come up with anything other than buzzwords, so we're no longer friends -- I told her off in no uncertain terms. But she's still buying the shotgun.

I told her I was a philosophy and economics major (true), and didn't want to hear her buzzword bingo bull.... and she said I was just being nasty, because she had no answer to what I said and couldn't respond except with buzzwords.

At least, she's no longer an anti... Surprising how one's opinion about guns changes when one has experiences with illegals and smuggling across one's property. This is southern Arizona, afterall...

A friend of mine told me a co-worker just expressed interest in going to shoot. She mentioned she had a friend that could "hook that up" so it looks like I'll be introducing someone to the wonderful world of firearms!

Awhile back I taught a basic handgun NRA course to 14 women on their "night out, doing something different". A few actually cringed when I opened a large case where I had numerous different types of handguns (in order to show how to safely check all the different action types). After an hour most had loosened up and were freely asking questions. When we put them on the firing line, (with .22's) most all were having a ball. One that claimed to have never handled a gun before shot a dime sized group at 50 ft. (off sandbag rest with a Pardini and a red dot sight). She asked what was so hard about it, then we showed her how to shoot one handed bullseye style, and she wasn't so cocky. In all they had a good time and nearly all of them took the targets home to show their hubby's and boy friends.

Klondike,
Thank you for leading by example. We need every friend we can get in the coming months and years. And more importantly, you have maybe taught them a method to protect themselves and their families, and introduced them to a sport the entire family can enjoy. I need to do this as well. Fortunately, its hard to find to many anti's in my part of gun loving East Tennessee!

Thank you again,
The Highlander

that is the way to do it! I am knocking em down one at a time out here in the Bay Area. It is really funny to watch them to shoot the first time, put down the emptied firearm, and turn around with a huge grin on their face. I have not met one person that has NOT liked shooting and NOT become addicted the minute after the first shot.

The funniest was when one of the out right communist acquaintances I have picked up the gun and asked "how do I make it so it doesn't shoot." well, that is easy, don't put your finger on the trigger. he thought about it for a moment and no longer views hand guns as unsafe. he hasn't quite gotten to the point of buying one yet (as a communist, he mostly spends his money on body piercings and pabst....) but he is down to talk about 'em and definitely down for some range time.

In his Message to Congress urging passage of the Ku Klux Acts-laws which were the first Federal Civil Rights laws and are still on the books-President Grant noted that among the Klan's many crimes was "they have conspired to deny Negro citizens the right to own and bear arms." Nothing gets a lefty/liberal's goat faster than to insinuate they're racist.

I've found that nothing beats a good hands-on experience.

At least here on the wesst coast, I also think one of our best bets for NRA recruitment may well be among newer Americans here legally. I've noticed at both indoor and outdoor ranges that a large number of folks from countries in Europe and Asia that don't allow firearms ownership are there, shooting, and having more fun than can be imagined. I've discovered in casual conversation that they also really appreciate the right to own and shoot.

Now if only we can get 'em on board the NRA and other groups...

Good work. I used to think I was a socialist. You could probably call me a pink-diaper baby. I am a bit slow to learn when not handed a complete system on a silver platter (I am quite fast to learn with simple, established stuff like math, science and English), so I didn't get over my idiocy until my thirties (!) or so. The reason I reexamined my political beliefs regarding economics was that I had found out how full of **** the lefties were on gun control. In other words, it was really 2A issues that eventually straightened out my ENTIRE political outlook.

Your contribution may go far beyond the Second Amendment.

I have a friend, a VP in a college, who does not agree with me on anything to do with politics. So to remain friends, we never talked politics, especially the second amendment. She knows I always carry, and it bugged her to know that I was wearing a gun when we sometimes met for breakfast. Until recently, her husband started working out of town and they asked me what type of gun to get for the house. My lefty friend is now the proud owner of a 20 ga. Remington 870 with a 21" barrel.

If we're gonna have an Obama-nation for a few years, we might as well convert as many of 'em as possible to responsible gun owners. At least then there will be less pressure brought to bear by the tin foil hat crew to limit our gun rights.

God bless the blue dog Democrats who keep some sort of balance in the Democratic Party.

T.
