Thought I would take a moment to share this experience with Remington. Remington gets more than its share of abuse for "lack of quality". I have a number of Remy's and they have all been outstanding. Anyway my Versa Max Tactical finally showed up the other day and I just got around to initial disassembly and cleaning last night. All was good except someone was having a bad day and jammed one of the gas piston retaining screws in with a power tool and stripped the gas cylinder which is part of the barrel. I did get the screw out and I was able to reassemble but the threads are pretty well damaged. It also looked like mine was the 1 in ~30 that gets test fired. For the money you would think they would at least clean it. Gun was pretty dirty internally and barrel was obviously fired.

I got on the phone with Rem this morning and a couple minutes later a complete new barrel assembly was on the way. Don't think I have ever had to deal with Rem service but it was 5 star. No return for service, no return old parts for inspection just parts on the way from a personable English speaking service rep. Service was easily as good as anything I have experienced from companies like Smith, Hornady and others. Granted its a hassle getting a "defect" but that's life. Rem told me their defect rate is 1% or less and new CO is pushing for zero. Zero not likely but six sigma would be a good target.

BTW unlike the guy that posted on just about every forum on the web "Do not buy Remington Versa Max Tactical" mine arrived still neatly packed in the same box with no external damage. (and it was shipped UPS from Buds to FL). Granted every other Versa Max comes shipped in a foam lined hard case and it would be nice if they did the same for the tactical. I guess the barrel clamp and extension tube make it less attractive for shipping barrel removed like the others. Then again last Rem I bought was an 11-87 and it came barrel removed in a cardboard box.

Since I mentioned Bud's let me say a couple things. I have bought several other guns from them (all my M&P's except Shield) and never had an issue. Many people have torched Bud's over the past few years at BBB, resellerratings, forums and others. I was not particularly happy with how long it takes them to ship an "in stock" item but they do say 3-7 business days. So lets just say I got what I ordered at a good price in the time frame specified. Bought, shipped insured and transferred for $1163. Locally LGS did not even seem interested in ordering. Could have gotten it from Gander (ship to store) for $1325 + 7% tax. The green zombie Gander had physically in store was $1600 + tax. The savings bought a +2 mag extension, four extended chokes and a bunch of ammo.

Good to hear Remington stood by their products and handled your situation so quickly.

I only had one problem with a Remington product and that was the cushy recoil pad went gummy on my Marine Magnum. I took the pad to Williams Gun Sight where I bought the gun used and they informed me it was a warranty item and bring the whole gun in. I did and a week later picked it up with the new recoil pad installed.
I thought that was exceptional service for a gun bought used too and no charge for any of it.
I'm glad you too had good service from them and I'll continue to buy products from them in the future.

Not too bad... called on 11/8 and complete new barrel assembly (choke and light tube included) dropped in my hands by UPS today 11/14.

Last poster was right though... would be nice if they would cleanup the quality of their ammo manufacture. Although people often confuse the generally poor quality of Remington UMC as actually being Remington. Not sure what Rem actually makes anymore and what has been outsourced to others including UMC. I actually got a box of UMC 45 not that long ago that was so out of spec OAL it would not even fit in my mags. Never really had a problem with real Rem ammo in 30-06, 270, 12g slugs and some others.

I, too, have had excellent customer service from Remington. Actually, I've had good CS from; Smith, Winchester/Browning, and now defunct Lorcin.

Latest issue on a used Remlin 336C, was a poorly finished fore end:

One phone call, a short email with pics, and a new fore end shipped to my door free. No need to return old part. Now this is on a used rifle. I'm going to send off another email with this pic of the butt stock fitment:

I want to see what they think about the gap behind the receiver tang. It is about 1/16" on both the top and bottom. I would like to get a better fit, and think I can do this, but want their opinion first.

Hopefully Remington and the rest of Freedom Group has learned a valuable lesson with regards to firearm manufacturing. Quality counts.
