Remington Cyclones

We can get Remington Cyclones locally at a really good price, how do 15-22's like them in general?

Mine loves Rem sub sonics. Should I grab some Cyclones or give them a miss?

I've seen people praise and complain about the same ammunition with the 15-22.
I'd get two boxes and try them out with your specific gun before getting a case.

It's always worked fine for me. As long as your rifle feeds other lead nose .22 ammo, then you shouldn't have a problem. The main difference in it from most other lead nose rounds is that it has a 36 grain bullet instead of 40, which may give a little more velocity. Also it is considered a hollow point, which is nothing more then a small hole in the middle of the lead bullet, I would be curious to know how it performs compared to other hollow points. My guess would be since lead is so soft it wouldn't be much different then a soild lead bullet.

Quick update. Put 200 of these through my 15-22 a couple days ago. Worked well and nothing news or noteworthy to report. I'll continue burning through the remaining 800 that I have.

Hi guys. Some feedback from my side.

I've started running into issues with the cyclones. It happens that when going through a mag a round (or few) will fail to fully chamber.

I've been clearing them out and and trying these problematic rounds one at a time. They work fine.

Had a chat with some guys who say that the likely cause for this happening is because of the build up of dirt which prevents the round from chambering correctly. They, and specifically the dealer who sold these rounds to me, have said that these lead-based rounds cause a considerable amount of fouling which requires thorough cleaning.

I had close to 10 such failures out of the 100 rounds that we put downrange. This is way too high for me. However, I plan to give the rifle a decent clean and then test the remaining rounds that I have. Didn't intend for my plinking gun to be my high maintenance gun.

Update. I can't tell you what's changed or that I'm doing something different but I've had zero failures over the last few hundred of these rounds that I've put through my 15-22.

The sad news is that I'm down to my last 200 rounds.

I have shot a lot of Rem Golden Bullets as well as about every other brand produced in the last thirty years ( using ammo from my stockpile) and have yet to find any that are causing repeated malfunctions. A few duds, bent bullets upon feeding (occasional incident) and very dirty ammo have been noticed, now shooting a couple of bricks of Montgomery Wards LR and it is firing just fine. A box of Velocitors sang their way through this morn without a mishap. I have two 15-22's and a dedicated DPMS .22 and all three will eat about anything I choose to feed them. My Walther/Colt clone is a bit more picky with ammo, loving Mini Mags

And with that, I've now shot out the last 200 rounds of the Remington Cyclone's.

A few issues initially but these were resolved by tapping the charging handle to help close the bolt. If that didn't work the round was ejected and then loaded into another mag.

It would appear that I've just been lazy and have neglected to keep the gun clean. There's a layer of carbon build-up that's preventing rounds from chambering all the way. I reckon a good clean ought to resolve my issues.

So, the ammo wasn't the problem. Just the owner. I remain happy with my 15-22.

From gunshops only. Don't have the option of purchasing from the Walmart equivalents here.

In terms of availability - well that depends on how bad things are in the States. When you guys go all crazy and start hoarding then we run dry. But from my personal experience I've never really had difficulty finding .22LR. Might not have found the specific brand that I was after, but that's about the worst.

That said, I'm also a bit of a hoarder myself. If I find a good deal then I grab a bunch.

Cost-wise: these Cyclone's cost me the equivalent of $0.05 a round. I picked up a brick of Winchester 555's for $45 a couple weeks back. There's since been a price increase.
