Friend inherited some firearms and wanted to be evaluate condition and value. No S&W firearms, but one I dismissed as "just an old .22" turned out to be the "Apache" version of the Remington Nylon .22 and was I shocked when I checked the value...most valuable firearm in the whole group. Should have offered $200 for it before I learned it's value...nah, would have felt like I cheated a buddy.

Is the Apache the black one? The Nylon 66's bring nice money at Gun Shows and Auctions when you can find them in good shape. Always wanted one when they came out in the 1960's when I was a teenage.

Nylon 66

I own two of them, an all black 66 that IIRC was called the "black diamond". The other one is the black stocked, chromed barrel and action. The chromed one belonged to an Uncle who bought it back when they were introduced and used it up till 2010. This rifle led a hard life, but still looks good for what I know it endured. I bought the all black one in the 80's, and it has served me well, they are both accurate, reliable and easy to pack around.

found an Apache Black/chrome one a number of years ago for $200 at a local pawn shop not my cup of tea, but I bought it knowing I could make a few bucks on it. I sold it at a gun show for $350 a couple of years ago.

I've been seeing the Nylon 66 Remingtons going for well north of $500 these days. The trusty model 552 that my folks gave me for Christmas forty years ago when I was 8 is selling above that too, but I think quite honestly they're the best of the breed in rimfire semiautomatic rifles, pace to Browning, Marlin/Glenfield and Ruger...

I wish I still had the Black Diamond version I traded for at a gunshow in the mid 80s....with a gun I was walking around with...as a teenager...

Currently I still love the standard brown Nylon 66 I have as well as the Nylon 10 single shot. Awesome firearms with a cult following for sure.

These guns literally cannot and will not jam if fed good ammo. They are the most reliable .22 semi-auto rifle in history. Point well and make a great little hunting gun. Super light and dandy all around!
