Has anyone heard or read when the R51 will be offered for sale again? I bought one of the older ones back in March and it is a fine shooter. It' got me interested in the new ones as a carry pistol.

Remington's website says production should have restarted this past October.

The date on that info is July 25 2014.

I haven't had the chance to shoot, or even handle one yet, but for some reason they interest me and I'd like to get my hands on one.

I bought my Dad the first & only one that came to our area last march. By May the rear sight had come loose 2 or 3 times. He called remmington , and returned it for service. He had no other issues with it. Remmington told him 4-6 weeks. After calls and emails every 4-6 weeks for 3 months, they told him it was part of the recall & would get a new gun in October . By December he called again. They said the factory was shut down for a move & would be several more months. They sent him a R1 to replace it. He already had a 4 year old R1, and the quality on the new one was not as good. IMO Remmington is slipping on quality, and I don't know if I will buy any more new guns made by them.

I pawed one last year at my LGS, and it had to be one of the worst quality fit/finish new guns I had experienced. This thing was rough, can't believe it ever left the factory. Sure hope they get their S together on that gun...

Picked one up for under three bills a couple of weeks ago. I knew there was a recall and a high likely hood it would give me problems. I wasn't the least bit surprised when I had a number of FTF and FTE during my range trip. That and the awful trigger will probably have me sending it back for the R1 1911.
I will say this though. The gun was very accurate and felt recoil a dream. This is not far from being one of the best compact 9's out there if they can get there act together.

Notice how your slide set a little far forward on the frame in your photo!! I got the R1 as a replacement and traded it brand new unfired toward a m&p40. Want no part of Remington anymore . Took them turds in the CS a most a years to square up with me on the r51 we had .

I have a lot of faith in Remington as a company & arms maker and the R51 really intrigues me with it's design.
I think they're on to something because when people report that the pistol functions fine, they love it. From what I know Remington is redesigning the pistol and the customers that bought a eariler production R51 are returning their pistols in exchange for the new version due to be released later this year.
Remington also plans on releasing a .40S&W version as well.

when the new version is officially released, I'll eagerly wait for the reviews and if the reports are good then I'll consider buying one myself.

There was no early and late production run. One run and done and most everyone made gave some QC issues . Problems like firing out of battery or the wear on the aluminum frame from the floating breach block that locked and unlock the slide showed wear on the aluminum frame even wneh swimming in grease . Most were pulled from the wholsalers and sent back before they could be sold . I ran 400 rounds thru ours in one day and as the round count went up above 320 the problems started to show up regularly. Remington outdoors or freedom group , what ever they go by now as has got'n to big and quality has slipped in most all the firearm companies . That's no thing new . The r51 pistol should never have been released to begin with and admit to a lack of testing of production handguns .
