Remington to resume production

I understood it was a quid pro quo. US gets to base nuke tipped cruise missiles in Italy (there we are, carrying the water for NATO, again). Italy gets US handgun contract. We coulda had the Glock 17, sigh.

No idea then.

I got my info from Gun Stories with Joe Montagna. Said that the Sig P226 was designed specifically for the US military and was in the running against the Beretta. Said the Sig was actually cheaper than the Beretta but that the total package, including replacement parts, maintenance etc was higher with the Sig over the Beretta and as usual, out Government goes with the lowest bidder.

But who knows. Is Beretta oned by the Italian Government company? I thought it was privately owned?

Good luck to them.
With 10 mil made, you would think there would be more companies that
sell parts.
If I had a machine shop this is something I would consider.

I ordered a 7600 carbine. We'll see if I ever get it.

Jeez, I'm sensing a lot of disrespect for the Mossberg brand in some of these posts. I don't know that this disrespect is justified when discussing modern firearms as opposed to what Grandpa was shooting in the golden days of yesteryear.

The U.S. military thinks enough of Mossberg 500 series shotguns that it has made multiple purchases in the many thousands of units. The Mossberg shotguns have met and exceeded every military specification for durability and performance. Had Remington minded their business better its shotguns might be arming the Marines today rather than those made by Mossberg. And I say that as a long time fan of Remington.

Only reason Mossberg got the bid was that they Were The Only Ones that submitted a bid..........As with military bids......You get only what the low bidder makes.

I don't see why we couldn't have kept the M1911A1. The BS about "A 9mm will be easier for females to shoot!" was just that. I saw 1 female soldier in my last 4 years of service after the betrayal who could reach the trigger on an M9 to shoot the first round double action. All the other females and some males cooked the hammer from the get-go.

I took my mom out to shoot several years ago. She isn't very strong, has never been. We bought her a 5 shot 38 revolver. I let her shoot my P14-45 with alloy frame. She shot it way better than the .38. It is a huge gun mind you especially for a woman.

I just contacted Remington about some warranty work and got this email:

"Due to the nature of the acquisition, RemArms LLC. is unable to service existing Remington firearms, honor any warranty or recall offered by the Remington Outdoors Company. As a show of our commitment to the Remington brand and its customers, once we become fully operational, we will do what we can to assist in resolving issues you may have with Remington product purchased through the Remington Outdoors Company.
We hope you appreciate the constraints that limit our ability to take care of firearms or other products made prior to the RemArms LLC acquisition of Remington firearms from the Remington Outdoors Company. In the future we will service product produced by RemArms, utilizing the highest standards available."

For Remington to succeed they will need to take their legacy products and upgrade them. The 870 needs to be on par with the other pump modern pump shotguns of the world; lighter, smoother, better finish at the price point they currently at. They need to introduce an auto loading shotgun that is on par with Mossberg. The V3 was too expensive for a 3" chambered semi functional semi auto. The Versamax was a decent design but wasn't going to command the same money as Browning, Franchi, Beretta, Benelli. Remington needs to take a serious look at other metal finishes as their recent products rusted just by looking at them. Hell half the parkerized guns I received had a good amount of surface rust when we got them directly from the factory.

The V3 expensive and semi functional? I thought the V3 was priced under most automatic shotguns other than the Russian and Turkish guns and a better shotgun than the Mossberg autos.

I admit the parkerized guns had a reputation for rusting though.

Heard they were suppose to start production of the 870 last month but not sure if they actually did because of labor-workforce issues. Would like to see the Wingmaster and 1100 produced.

I hope the new guy's philosophy puts quality above the bottom line instead of the other way around like Freedom Group. We all know how that worked out.
