Remington Yellow Jackets

Just started shooting the Remington Yellow Jacket rounds and noticed the projectile on the bullet is able to spin within the bullet cartridge. I was wondering if this is typical for this round or if it is a bad batch? I have shot 200 rounds through my 15-22 and they are accurate at about 85 yards. Has anyone noticed this as well?

My 15-22 does not like those yellow jackets. I shot about 20rds and got about 6-7 FTE so i put them away.

A friend at the range asked to shoot my 15-22. I told him sure if he used his own ammo. He loaded a mag with yellow jackets and shot them all with no issues.

You know times are lean when you require someone to provide their own ammo to shoot your .22lr! Not saying I blame ya, just who would have thought it would come to this.

If you mean the actual bullet is loose within the brass and able to spin, no, it is not supposed to do that.

I'm not sure if ammo is supposed to do that, but I have had remington ammo where it has done that. I tend to stay away from remington because it created a lot jams and misfires for me.

Yes that is what is happening. They seem to still shoot fine but, just found this odd. The Yellow Jackets were the only thing I was able to find in the past month so naturally I got as much as the store would allow (800 rounds).

I have noticed the "loose bullet" in several brands of .22 over the years. Doesn't seem to make any difference. I may be totally wrong here, but I believe the lead bullet expands enough upon firing to seal any gas leaks.

I've also noticed the loose bullet issue in various brands of ammo, though not consistently in any particular brand. Might just be a production lot issue.

I think the ODDEST thing is that these were accurate out to 85 yards! That's certainly not been my experience in my rifle with anything hyper velocity. That's great if your rifle shoots these accurately though!

The bullet doesn't expand; it is already slightly larger that the bore diameter.

But you are right, the loose bullet has no practical effect on plinking accuracy. Bench rest competition is another matter, though.
