Ilion, NY will be doomed if they do.

Wouldn't blame them if they did, NY doesn't care about upstate or our businesses. It's all about the city, if it slid into the ocean I wouldn't care in the least!!

It aint Texas, by God but NC/SC or upstate NY are not bad places to live.
Heck, since I ahte the cold and snow, i would become a camp follower.

I've wondered for years why S&W, Remington, and several other large manufacturers have stayed in northeastern states that were so obviously hostile to their industry.

New York's mayor is now meddling in Chicago/Illinois business because of "gun violence". Just look up Bloomberg super pac. Chicago's mayor has demanded that that any investments in gun manufacturing by their ailing civil servant pension funds be dissolved. It would seem that the anti gun cities are in states that are also the ones most costly to do any kind of business in. Rock River Arms, DSA, and Springfield Armory are all located in Illinois and reputed to be looking for new digs.
I don't look for any company moves in the foreseeable future. They will test the waters in states like mine. Indiana is currently blitzing Illinois with offers of milk n honey and tax benes to any company willing to move here. Existing gun industries will concentrate on cranking out product and consider moves only when and if it benefits them.

When you consider the millions invested in their production sites location it is easy to see why they don't move. As facilities get old and devalued, there is the possibility to relocate. I found it interesting when S&W opened the site at Holton Maine to locate all the 1911 and Mod 41 etc. production. All the more modern CNC equipment.

Just saw the Mayor of Ilion, NY speak on the news. He is pleading with Cuomo to visit his town and tour the Remington plant which has operated there since 1897 and has 1300 employees.

They can't sell it in NYS anymore anyway regardless.
I don't see them making any sort of 'If we can't sell it to the locals we're not staying' statement.
They're owned by some big investment company anyway I think (Freedom Group?). They could care less about all this 2A stuff.
As long as the bottom line is good,,they wouldn't care if they were making door knobs.

Their Military contracts is where the $$ is.

That statement is very accurate. Ilion, NY will be economically devastated if Remington picks up and leaves for friendlier turf.

I thought that Remington and Marlin and USRAC (Winchester) were all aready moved to the Carolinas. ???

I think the rimfires are made in KY. Most all else is in Ilion, still. Ammo made in Ark

Actually, Ilion has a huge future in tourism. It is the gateway to Herkimer.
I lived in upstate New York for a couple of years, much of it in Herkimer and Utica. The economy of the entire Mohawk valley has been struggling for literally decades as American manufacturing has declined. Remington's closure would be a killer to them.
Cost of physically moving the manufacturing facility is only part of the issue. The workforce's training and experience would take forever to replicate and in the competitive, relatively small firearms industry, having to rebuild the workforce would probably prove fatal to Remington. I don't know how many of the employees would want to pull up family stakes and move or, given the relatively low wages, be able to afford it.
I don't think the financial collapse of the entire firearms industry would bother the crusaders of the anti-gun movement. They generally have no financial stake in it. It isn't part of their lifestyle. Outside of a fear of guns and what they represent, and some juvenile belief that making guns illegal will somehow affect violence, guns have no place in their lives, financial well-being or otherwise. And in their almost religious beliefs, causing others immense financial hardship by throwing the industry under the bus doesn't matter to them, it is just a part of the cost of a "modern, enlightened society" which cost will be borne by others, so it doesn't matter to them.

I know when the folks at Remington hand delivered a letter to the Governor where they stated that four or five states were courting Remington, Governor Cuomo said something that they were entitled to move if they choose. There was also some Congresswoman from NYC who when asked about it even said that Remington should also have their subsidies yanked for law enforcement because there is no reason the company should get anything for making AR-15's. They interviewed the town supervisor at Ilion and he even said you might as well roll up the sidewalks because that will be the end for the town. Cuomo has said repeatedly that he doesn't care if other businesses stop their sales to LEO's here, he said it is their choice, but word around the campfire is Cuomo knows he messed up big time, his approval ratings dropped like a rock and so far over a dozen counties have come out against the Safe Act and this past week two county sheriffs, including the one in my county have also come out against it. In what appears to be a move to try and stem some of the bleeding, the cost of hunting licenses will actually go down this year! That was announced yesterday which I was stunned to hear. Cuomo knows he blew this one big time, if Carl Paladino runs again in 2016 he is in deep trouble, if he runs for President Hillary will squash him so he will most likely end up as a Veep candidate. Now though is what damage will he do until 2016, there has been no answer from his office if he supports the new bill of making gun owners in NY get $1 million in insurance. If that passes, you either insure your guns or you lose them.
A million dollar liability rider on your homeowners (or renters) policy is pretty cheap if done right and covers driving also. I've had mine for years, with 4 kids driving ,I thought my risk warrented the coverage, hunting, target shooting, and general kids being kids is included. It's a sue happy world out there, I let State Farm do the worrying for me!

SC Congressman Jeff Duncan has already written to Remington and Magpul and invited both companies to the Palmetto State! I hope both of them take him up on it.
You don't see alot of liberals on gun sites.

The Speaker of the Mississippi House of Representatives has also written many of the manufactorers and invited them to move down here. Come on down. We've got a big empty building at the local industrial park and lots of folks looking for jobs. Unions aren't a problem either. Tax breaks and a lower cost of living would benefit all.

New York, New Jersey, Conn.,Mass,Calif. are all goofed up. Both tax wise & industrial with not much good news in sight. I don't blame companies for moving. It's like killing the goose to get the golden egg.

I believe I saw an article where a high ranking state official in Colorado said that Magpul could still manufacture their magazines in Colorado, their citizens just could not own them. In other words, they want the $85 million per year generated by the company for the state, but not the product generated by the company. Unreal!!!!!!!!!!! RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN MAGPUL!!
