Remington's new CB .22 Long Rifle ammo.

I did not know until I talked with a friend this evening and he informed me that Remington is now making a .22 LR version of the CB round- in a hollow point!

I'm going to have to get some boxes of these, as they seem to be much cheaper than their CCI counterparts, and will function in .22LR chambered semi-autos even if the actions must be manually manipulated.

Not an advertisement, but just a heads up for those out there like me that like to shoot low powered stuff around the house.
Remington's part number for it is CB-22L100, so you can tell your local dealer what your are talking about.

I got some from ATG a few months back for about $7 per 100. It is noticeably louder than CCI CB's, but still not too bad. They are heavier bullets at a higher fps, so no wonder that they toss out a little more sound. The HPs are nice for taking care of those pesty squirrels and such as the bullet does expand to about .35 or so in the tests that I performed.

Got to love the porch shooting with a .22 that the neighbors can't hear.

I've got a Winchester pump action with an el cheapo Weaver 4X scope on it; pretty accurate little combination, and I have to work the action every time anyway, so that part isn't a concern.

Which model of Winchester? Also, if that's a older Weaver American-made riflescope, it's better than anything coming out of "The East" today- no matter the price. If it ever fogs or gets cloudy from age, get it repaired and cleaned- it's worth it!

Thanks for the heads up. I have been using Remington CB Longs for about 20 years. I have killed an enormous amount of vermin with them. I had to look for a long time around my area to find any more of them when I ran out a while back. I found a place that had some bricks of them, so I have plenty for now. I prefer the Remingtons over the CCI's.

I tried some and they are not that much quieter than regular .22's ,the remington and CCI CB's are definitly quieter if you want stealth.

In my experience, all the CB rounds are underpowered and pretty much useless for killing skunk and 'possum sized animals. A far better choice is the CCI .22 Target Short which is quiet out of a rifle and is an excellent killer of small game out to 25 yards or so without having to compensate for bullet drop.

That has not been my experience at all. I have killed an enormous amount of raccon, possum, fox squirrel, and various other critters with the Remington CB Longs. Several racoons from way up at the top of my oak trees. One shot right between the eyes, and down they fall, deader than dead. On body shots, that hit less than ideally right behind the shoulder, I just give them one or two extras. No problems yet, and you could fill a full sized truck bed to overflowing.

Ely and Winchester don't make CB's though, and CCI's cost more than the Remingtons version, and don't do anything more or better. In all of the Rem. CB's I have fired, there has never been 1 FTF, ever.

While not doubting you, I find it strange. I can't remember ever having had one either. Over the years I've bought and fired a bunch of them, even the Ely "really short" ones. What I find strange, and I've never seen or bought the Remingtons, is FTF's are pretty common with recent vintage Remington ammo. I have no idea why, but about 8 to 10 years ago I ran into a bunch of Remington problem ammo.

In the distant past, like the 1960s, Remington was my ammo of choice. The old Golden bullets and hollowpoints were dead reliable. But about 2000 the ammo I used to trust just seems to have fallen apart from a dependability standpoint (Winchester cheap stuff, too.)

As usual here, I may not know what I'm talking about......

My understanding was the original CB and BB caps had no powder, with the energy coming from the priming charge itself. Maybe the same holds true for modern versions of CB's, and the long's, too. If so, maybe they're using better QC on them than the cheap discount Long Rifles.

I know for sure that Remington CBee's have powder, and I have had friends say that the CCI do too, which I would have to believe since they are loaded to the same advertised velocity.

The CBee's are a different animal from the old original cb, and bb caps. Those were nothing but primer, much like those by Aguilla today.

I have heard a lot of guys here on the forum say they have had trouble with Remington ammo lately, and I believe them. Most of my Remington ammo is 3-4 years old or more, and I have had almost zero FTF with it. My 17-3 and all of my rifles really love the Cyclones for some reason. I get some of my best groups consistantly with it.

I, and my neighbor, along with several members at the club have had enormous problems with recent vintage Wally Wolrd bulk pack 550 federals, with regards to FTF. I have always liked Federal ammo, especially in .22, but the recent crap is just that. I think that the problem lies in trying to get out ammo at record rates to keep up with demand, and QC has slipped tremendously in the past few years especially. With the WW bulk packs, we experience as high as 3 out of 10 FTF! It is frustrating too, especially for them, since they went and loaded up heavily with it.
