If one owned a 2d or 3d generation Smith Autoloader, and disliked the size of the adjustable sight and its accompanying stainless steel "wing" protectors, and wanted to change them out for something more svelte, how would one go about it?

How does one even remove these sights, and what might be a suitable replacement? Is this even possible or recommended?

Thank You in advance for your help...

IMHO I would start with a 2nd/3rd Gen. fixed sight autoloader. It will be much easier to find a replacement adjustable sight to fit the dovetail of the fixed sight pistol. As for me I like the "wings".

Replace the slide with one that has fixed sights, no really. As far as I know there are no aftermarket sights that replace the fixed S&W sights on these guns.

To remove them is really easy. Use a small punch to press in the forward pivot pins that are holding the sight body in the mount, pop the sight assy out and then remove the screws holding the sight mount to the slide. The mount slides out to the side. Note that the mount retains the FPS plunger and trigger disconnector in the slide.

Hey Folks!
CTSiglover, if your gun is a 4506 and you are interested in swapping slides, give me a hollar!
I have a fixed sight 4506 and would like to have one with the winged sights.
I can swap slides as they are not numbered and everything would be legal.
Just let me know.. Take care and God Bless...HT
