Removing the grips on a 4506-1

I must be doing something wrong here. I tried tapping out the pin at the base of the grip with a pin punch and mallet but it will not budge. Does it only go out one way? Is there something else I need to remove to get the grips off? Thanks.

You got it, make sure the hammer is down, use a punch with a nice handle, set the gun on your carpeted floor, and put your weight on that punch. Taking the slide off and SLOWLY letting the hammer down will also releive a little more resistance on that pin.
