My M&P 45 has a magazine disconnect. I've seen a few videos and read a few posts where folks have removed them.

Would you remove yours? Do you think it could affect the reliability?

The mag disconnect has no bearing on the reliability of firearm. I removed mine from my S&W-40c and it affected nothing, and I will add its a matter of personal preference and there are guys on here that have argued for and against the mag safety add nauseum! If you decide to remove it only takes a few minutes and I used a #1 spring from True Value hardware cut down.

As noted, it can be removed with no effect on reliability or safety. I prefer it gone; I prefer all of my M&Ps to be set up the same way (no thumb safety, no magazine safety).

You can order the factory spring from Speed Shooter Specialties, replacing the lever and the current spring with the correct S&W part.

1 x Mag Safety Deactivation Spring (Item #1787) = $4.00

I pulled it out of my 45fs and used a cut off spring from a 1911 parts bin. I can't recall how many coils I used.

Took some fiddling to get it I there but have no regrets.

With the Apex tactical duty carry kit and the USB installed, it's every bit as smooth as I had hoped for. Nicer than the HK45 that I almost purchased.

Cost less as well!!!

I removed mine and that stupid sear disconnect lever too, no problems thus far.

Does this spring work in the compacts?

So, the thumb safety can be removed safely also?

Thank you for this information. I ordered the spring and installed it in about 5 minutes. I much prefer the gun without the disconnect.

Yes, the thumb safety can be taken out with no ill effect on the gun.

The thumb safety on the M&P only blocks the trigger from moving. It doesn't block the sear or firing pin. It does offer a measure of safety from the trigger being accidentally actuated by a piece of clothing or a malfunctioning holster. Those shouldn't be an issue anyway if you are handling the gun properly.

I hate to be "that guy", but is there a step by step here in the forums on how to remove said mag disconnect?
