S&W M&P Spec Series V Comp

I haven't seen much discussion of this gun but I haven't been around in quite a while.

If you have one what's your honest opinion of the trigger. Seems like a sweet gun but I've watched a few videos and they have conflicting opinions of the trigger.

Can this gun be bought in the commie states with 10 round mag restrictions.

Mine weighed in at 4.2 lbs on a Wheeler digital trigger pull gauge after an initial polishing of the trigger bar and striker block face, and 3.8 lbs after it had several hundred rounds through it. For comparison, a regular 2.0 OR with way more rounds through it comes in at 4.0 lbs on the same trigger pull gauge.

If you pull the trigger slowly, it feels like it has a grit or lurchiness that's not present on my polymer guns. My comparison pistols are 3 full size M&Ps, all of which have the striker block with the sharply beveled edge, and a 2.0 Compact that suprisingly came with the rounded/radiused edge striker block more similar to an Apex striker block.

However, if I'm not pulling the trigger at a slow pace, I don't really notice it.

None of the S&W Spec Series M&P have been available in ban state configurations, so if you don't have an FFL willing to pin magazines or swap them for the ban state mags, you're going to be out of luck.

I had one, was pretty much a catch and release.
Like Beju, I felt the trigger was gritty and I polished up the bar and striker and it cleaned right up.
For my XXL hands, I thought the trigger pull was a little long. But I like forward triggers, 1911/2011 style, and in all my pistols I've done trigger work…

It was a great looking, very nice shooting gun.
In the end, I put a couple hundred down range, it didn't do anything better than my Staccato P and my Sig Legion X5. I had no reason to keep another target/range pistol in my safe.
Aesthetically… Smith knocked it out of the park with this one.

You could be better off buying a poly model and adding a apex fst kit and there gunsmith fit traded barrels that easy enough to fit at home and be money ahead . Then you can shoot your nothing special looking m&p that very capable of shooting groups far more like a high end custom . The APEC trigger kit in todays 2.0 models can give you a low to mid range 3lb pull with a far better break and rest than anything s*w can manage and the gun smith fit barrel will also surpass anything s&w can manage even with there fancey high prined models for 410 dollars in parts + a small shipping fee added at home . I have our apex upgraded pistol adusted for 3lb 4 to 6oz break weight . Being an long time 1911 guy a 3.5lb trigger feels right for me .

Want a 5" model the SKU: 13569 with a fde color is the only basic 5" they offer today but others are out there . This sku: is optic ready with thumb safety's for 605 dollars at PSA .

My wife has a early m&p 4.25 core 9mm with the parts mentioned for the first generation model and with a 2moa dot optic I manage 1.20/1.25 35 yard 5 shot groups for this old trifocal wearing 69 year old man . My grandson manages slightly better with some HST 124gr we used . I fired 10 rounds to see if it ran well and foul the barrel than fired off a bench and rest for group . Years later I now have a m&p 4" compact with the same parts used and it's just as accurate using a holosun green circle dot useing the 2moa dot at a small red ring for testing .

I'd go Overwatch trigger kit over Apex.
Used both…and used to be a big Apex guy in previous M&Ps… Overwatch is a better kit IMO.

Maybe overwatch is better for some folks but it is nice to have choices . I carry mine and the find the apex m&p to be adjustable for pull weight and break and reset are as smooth and as lite as wanted in a carry handgun considering my long 1911 back ground .

I have some trigger time with overwatch in a m&p and for me its not better but about the same ! I The heck runs / owns overwatch . There site does not give you a back ground in there about section . Anyway there are good choices , Some like timney better too but options are out there except for a match quality barrel If that matters . If stock trigger pull length and reset is not an issue a little stoning and polishing to the connector where it touches the striker block and sear can greatly improve trigger pull for smoothness and pull weight .

I do find it odd how m&p 40sw models tend to be better groupers than 9mm stock barrels going back to early models .

Wholeheartedly agree, options are always better.
I bought a competitor when they first came out, Apex had nothing for it yet, so I found overwatch.
Outstanding in that pistol.

I found my way back to M&P Pistols earlier this year, and I don't know why I stopped buying/shooting them. When I got a 2.0 Carry Comp, the Apex kit was really bad. I went by the spring rate chart by Apex, which, again, the technical resources there and self help videos are outstanding.. but by the spring rate chart I should have been sub 3lbs. My goal for carry guns is always 3.5lbs. I had to use their lightest springs to get it under 4. I disassembled and reassembled several times, checking every thing.
Weight was off, and I mean WAY off… break and reset never felt right.

Swapped it out with Overwatch, and it was within an ounce or two of advertised weight, break was much better, reset better.

I'm a 2011 fan. I do all my own trigger work. There is no better trigger IMO. Smith is way down the charts for me on trigger feel/quality when it comes to striker fired pistols. They can be made better, clearly. But even with aftermarket parts, they're mid pack at best compared to other offerings.
Adequate? Absolutely 100% no questions asked.

For me, it's the grip angle, natural pointing, and reliability with the Smith that drew me back in. And they bring new offerings to the market very regularly.

I have not yet tried Timney in a pistol.. that may be next one day. But I have zero complaints about Overwatch in my 2.0 comp carry or my PC Shield plus comp. Both great shooters and reliable.

Options are always a good thing, I agree.

I used the stock trigger return spring and purple sear spring and had a first 10 pull check for break weight of 3lb 10oz average along with some basic polishing of parts and after a couple hundred rounds fired pull break weight lowered 2 to 4oz oz . Might should check it again as round counts some where around 1200 now . Older m&ps are 3lb 4oz to 6oz now useing a wheeler digital gauge .

I will say I hate straight triggers in general and used the apex curved aluminum trigger . With 3 apex fst kits ,, well one is the earlier FSST kit in the CORE the pull weights are all very close to the same with out a chart with my first apex trigger kit back some 16 years ago .

I learned to shoot as a young kid with a new '61 colt huntsman 6" that has a 2lb trigger but it took me some years to understand how nice that pistols trigger was after buying my first 1911 with a adjusted 3.5lb trigger and it felt sloppy and heavy !! Dumb 21 year old . That colt huntsman also still has no perceivable take up and over travel . I also picked up a DW 15-2 revolver when 21 to hunt with and it has a SA 2lb 2oz trigger break with adjustable over travel . Rifles pull weights run form 13oz on tuned stock trigger 22lr rifle to 2lb 6oz . A couple rifles I hunt with a in the mid 1.5lb range with hyperfire 24c at 2lb 4oz in two of our AR's and one 2lb pdi trigger all single stage . I don't find the m&p pistols with the apex fst kit to have any issues to worry about so might be you could have tried the lighter unpainted sear spring and factory trigger return spring but your info is a bit light on parts you used what your pull weights were so not my concern .

I have shot a m&p 2.0 with the Timney I did not care for but that could be a home installed issue and one Overwatch m&p pistol and its fine but I just find no reason to buy one when Apex has work well for me.

I was taught for a carry handgun to sweep the trigger back in a ipsc match in the late '70 to try to, not follow the rest or use a uncontrolled slap at the trigger then read the Jarrett , Leatham and Yong Lee . Works well for double action shooting or sa and for me A mostly A zone I have started learning thisstyle with amy DW revolver in the late '70's .
