Yes that's the right wax. I use it on ALL firearms and really like it. Midway usa sells it. I don't know where you're located but I bought some at the NRA museum in Fairfax, VA.

woodcraft usually carries it in their stores and you can order from them as well. It is good stuff for lots of things, guns included.

johnson paste wax also works very well on wood and blued and stainless steel finishes.

less expensive and available at hardware, home improvement and auto stores.

Museums use REN. WAX a bunch, great wax, expensive but really good.

Save your Johnson's Paste Wax for making Bullet Lube for Cast BOOLITS (spelling of the cast bullets forum).

Good Shooting and Polishing.

Don't forget to purchase the Pre-Lim first step. It cleans off the minor swirls and marks before applying Ren-wax.

While Johnson Paste Wax works well, I have had the best results using Ren-Wax. Just my opinion.

A mention about BLACK leather

I used it on my (BLACK) belt but did not wipe it off before it had dried and now its become a white film tough to remove. This is not a down side and I continue to highly recommend its use just a suggestion to remove it before it dries on black or dark leather.

Pre-Lim says it "removes oxidation". Blueing is oxidation so would it have any bad effect on blued guns?

Smitholdtimer-I've done the same thing (although on the metal).

Simply re-apply fresh Ren Wax, and polish immediately. The new stuff melts (?), or at least softens, the old glaze, and it comes off nicely.

I REALLY like the Ren Wax.

Another big thumbs up for the Ren Wax, it is really good stuff. If took my quite a while to wean myself off of gool ole CLP, but I now use the wax on most of my guns. Although, I still use the clp on the ones I get out and use a lot. It works on a variety of different materials, so if you can afford it, it's uses are non just limited to guns.

I usually buy mine from midwayusa.com along with some good quality cloth rags.

i buy mine from leevalley.com for less than 1/2 of midvalley. it is the cat's meow, that is for sure.

Brownbelfry,

Renaissance Wax is a BRAND of microcrystalline wax originally produced by the
British Museum Research Facilities in the 1950's, now manufactured SOLELY by
Picreator Industries Ltd in England.

The Conservator's wax from Leevalley is descibed in their website as a microcrystalline wax produced in Canada.

Are they the SAME WAX or SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT IN THEIR COMPOSITION?

I have used it for years on my blued guns and never had a problem. I will allow that they are all in very good condition, so I cannot speak about a poor condition blue.
