Today I was shooting my 4" Mod 57 .41 Magnum. As I was sighting it in, my group went haywire. I noticed that the rear sight base elevation nut had somehow slid out of the rear sight channel. I wanted to replace the marred top elevation nut anyway. So, when I got home I began the task. I removed the front screw and the sight assembly could be removed. Now the hard part. Per other posts, I was warned to be careful of losing the spring clip, plunger and spring and to use a plastice bag. Well, I couldn't see the spring clip through the plastic. It looked like it was impossible to get the spring clip off anyway so I removed the assembly from the bag. I continued to try to pry it off using a dental pick and small watch repair screwdrivers. Finally, "sproing" it was off. Luckily I found it and removed the plunger and spring in the plastic bag. I got out my "new" top elevation nut and assembled the plunger and spring inside the rear sight base.

I found that it was easy (or maybe I just got lucky) to snap the spring clip back on by holding one side with my fingernail while pressing the other side with a small screwdriver.

Now it's all back together and we'll see how it holds up when I go back to the range.

Thanks to all the posters that gave me the tips and info on how to do this.
