Repeal NFA???

Attorneys have a saying:
"Hard cases make bad law. This is good example.
I, for one, do not want Second Amendment precedent that will affect basic rights regarding carry outside the home and the possession and sale of semi-automatic rifles and handguns being decided in the context of an outlier case involving an object that was clearly designed to get around the NFA rules on machine guns.

Well, here we are...

GOP House Members Introduce Bill to Repeal National Firearms Act

Of course, it won't ever make it through the Senate...

It won't make it through the House, either...and I'm sure the sponsors know that.

In every single Congress, members of both parties introduce bills they know will never become law...many of them, for that matter, never even get a hearing.

So why introduce such legislation? It's all about fundraising, posturing, appealing to one's base voters, and fulfilling campaign promises.

This bill was introduced by freshman Congressman Eric Burlison, and co-sponsored by five others. No member of House leadership is a co-sponsor. It's been assigned to Ways and Means, and given how little support there is for it, I will shocked if it gets a hearing.

What bills like this do is enable pro-2A Representatives to assure folks like us that they're "fighting for us". This will become a talking point when the sponsors run for re-election in 2024, and ask gun owners to contribute to their campaigns. Pro-gun rights groups might use this to ask for money as well.

I'm not saying that Rep. Burlison and his co-sponsors are insincere in making this proposal...but they know this has no chance of becoming law, no matter who controls the Legislative or Executive branches of our government.

Both sides of the aisle do this regularly with their pet causes...it's just the way the game is played.

Just a moment...

I say your cynicism is justified, Beemerguy. BUT, this does put it up on the screen. No, it's not going to happen this year. But putting it up again and again will eventually get it recognized.

This is how it starts. It is good.

ABSOLUTELY! That is how the left gets its agenda passed. They never let up and just keep pushing. WE need people on our side of the issue to keep doing the same.

As a collector of firearms and shooter, I would say the NFA has a purpose and should exist.

However, the various agencies that are in charge of enforcement need to understand the purpose of the rules, actually understand firearms, and what they are supposed to be doing with the rules they are enforcing, and not whatever they want, or what the mood of the politicians currently in power is telling them to do.

And that purpose is???

Originally , it was to ensure only the well heeled could afford the stamp for a full automatic.

Now , it's so the feds can create felonies out of whole cloth without Congressional action.

I certainly do not trust the Government to act in anyone's best interest save their own . And seeing how they can't act in the public's interest, they shouldn't have such authority.

True about so many things these days.

As an owner of two registered machineguns, I just wish the Government would allow the importation of C&R machineguns for transfer to individuals. The price would go down, and I could afford a nice 1928 Thompson, a German MG42, or maybe a tripod mounted Vickers. Affording the ammunition would be another problem.

does the Constitution over-rule a federal law? That would be the only way to get rid of parts/all of the NFA.
