Replace a 4" 13-2 with what if you had say up to $1200 to spend?*UPDATE FROM GUN SHOW

This might be heresy on this forum, but a lot of imports like Taurus were virtual copies of the Smith K.

Go ahead, start the tar a'boiling

I am considering the Taurus 627 Tracker with 4" barrel. Not sure how it compares to the Model 19/66 in size as the cylinder holds seven rounds. I was impressed with the quality and finish on one I handled recently.

Big plus is 💲. Extra for ammo and other goodies.

Lots of good input here for your needs. It comes down to what ever is the best available deal/deals at the show that you can swing. Good luck!

Model 19

THAT...is what you are looking for...

I'm also on the 'fixed sights' train. If I had $1200 a 3" round butt M13, M65, M64, M10 would be on my short list.
If you must have adjustable sights, a 686 3" round butt would be my choice. Without the lock of course.

If you want to buy 2 guns, for $1200, pawn shops and local gun stores might be your best bet. There are good buys out there, you just need to hunt them down. GB has deals from time to time, but shipping and transfer fees will eat into your budget.
Otherwise, as previously suggested, buy a nice shooter, and some ammo, and maybe a holster.

I picked up this 4" 19-4, from my LGS, a couple years ago for $1200.
Deep blue? Check.
Eye-catching? Oh, yeah!
Checks every box, for me.

K Frame range day. The 66 was a $400 pawn shop find.

Okay, you know our laws well... do you know our history well? When that guy outside Zanesville lost his mind, let all of his wild African safari animals free and then killed himself, LE didn't handle that problem with 4-inch .357's! :D

No, I certainly don't believe this is a typical threat but it is Ohio related so it seemed fun to throw it in.

Well that's very true! LOL

It has sights that don't need adjusting. It is dead on.

It's not so much the "dead on" of fixed sights versus adjustable. Adjustable sights are much nicer, crisper to see the front blade with than just the "tunnel" rear sight on fixed sight guns. I'm not getting any younger so I want all the help I can get.

Very nice line up!!

I called my LGS last week and he didn't have anything I'm after. Might go there this week before the show and make sure he didn't get anything in. It's a great family owned shop and one of the boys is a Smith nut also. He knows what I'm looking for.

The only non S&W I would consider in that range would be a DW in great shape. They use K frame speedloaders, are a little beefier than the K frames and hold value. I would be happy with a Blackhawk if you don't mind a SA revolver. First should be 686, 586, 66 and 19, if you want adjustable sights.

A DW would be nice to come across for sure.

No SA. This will still serve CCW duty at times.

I'm definitely going to look at the four you mentioned and going to look at any Security Six's. They're a good revolver also.

Why not a Colt SAA or a Quality Clone of a SAA or a Ruger GP 100 or a Security Six. Or a Ruger Black Hawk.

If following along with the thread from the beginning these have all been addressed.

NO SA.
GP100- too big
Security Six is on my list
Black Hawk-SA

I bought a 95% condition Stainless Security Six 4" with factory service grips about 5 years ago for $400. i just looked on Gunbroker and they are going for about double that price right now. The 2-3/4" guns are a little more money but they are pretty cool looking!

Unfortunately everything is double what it was five years ago.
However the gun market is in a slump right now. Good for buyers, bad for sellers.

I'm crossing my fingers there is the selection that was at this show the last time I was there. And hopefully good pricing.

A baby Python;

If your first priority is "appealing to the eye" and you gonna shot 38's, then I suggest you find a Colt Diamondback to drool over. The bluing is absolutely the best Colt has ever done. It looks like liquid glass; deep blue and enticing. Almost a 3D effect.
IMO, the fit and finish of the Diamondback is the pinnacle of Colt perfection. The balance is perfect for me. Outstanding accuracy is a given.

I have one of everything mentioned and it's the Diamondback that always catches my eye. She's the one I want to dance with.
I love my Pythons, Security Sixes, model 19's, 66's, and 586/686's; they each have their strengths. But if I had to pick just one for prettiest, the Diamondback is it.

First priority is 357 mag. :D

I have a beautiful model 10 no dash for a 38spl only and an LCR 38+P (no eye appeal there though) LOL

Hey OP,

Yep, I read the 357mag, but
I thought pretty might win over caliber.

Just as well, as it would be difficult to find a Diamondback for $1200.

For the money, the Security Six, is hard to beat. Tough as nails and can shoot hot 357mag all day long. It is a working man's gun. The S&W 19 and 66 are a gentleman's gun.
The Smith's double action DA smoothness is hard to beat.

Ruger's are somewhat easier to work on.

Colt Pythons may be a little large or heavy for you. I like their 3 5 7 model (that's read three five seven) and it is still reasonably priced. It came a couple of years before the Python.

What wonderful options await your decision (sweet agony). Hard to go wrong.
