Hi All,
I have a model 10-10 that has had the cylinder chamfered (not by me), and maybe twice out of a hundred rounds, one of the case heads will slip past the extractor star. So I don't trust it for carry.

Is this a part that I can get from S&W and install it myself, or does it need to be fitted?

Will S&W sell this part? Think I could send the cylinder to them to fix? I'm open to do it myself.

Thanks

The new extractors that don't have 2 pins in the center are drop in. The older style pin ones have to be fitted. I'm not sure which one the -10 is, someone here will know, or you can just look at your gun and tell.

Thanks! Yep it has two pins.

You'd probably have better luck replacing the cylinder and extractor both as a set. That is what worked out for me for me with my 15-5 when I discovered a longitudinal bulge in one cylinder. I tried replacing the cylinder without replacing the extractor star at first, but the pins didn't line up. So I ended up replacing both.

My advice is to contact S&W Customer Service. 1-800-331-0852
S&W will not sell extractors (and many other fitted parts) "over the counter" because the part has to be fit to the gun.

Since the gun has been altered/modified there will be a fee for the evaluation and repair, but it will be well worth the cost, and you will be money ahead if you have it done right the first time.
