Replacing 1086 extractor spring

I was shooting my 1086 today. With Federal 180 FMJ it works fine, but when I went with the Hornady (factory loaded) 180 XTP loads they would usually fail to extract. The cartridge rims aren't damaged so I think instead of any chamber related problem it's just a weak extractor spring.
Looks to me like the extractor & spring are held in place with a pin.

Is changing the extractor spring a difficult operation? Any advice?

If the existing extractor will firmly hold a dummy round there may be other problems casing this.....like a dirty chamber or crud around or under the extractor itself for example. If other causes have been ruled out, replacing the spring is fairly simple.
Carefully remove the pin from the slide and remove the extractor body and old spring. Thoroughly clean the slot and check the extractor claw for damage. If the extractor is ok, re-install extractor over the new spring and re-install the pin. When seated, make sure the pin does not protrude down into the slide rail area. When finished, verify the extractor moves freely, and will hold a dummy round when it's inserted under the claw by hand.
Springs should be available from Brownells and Numrich. You should probably check on the availability of parts before you begin. While you're at it, order a new pin and an extra spring. I recently changed the extractor spring in an old 5906 and when I removed the pin, it was broken. If you can't find parts, let me know, I have some extra springs, etc.

Did you have any luck cleaning or replacing the extractor spring? I had exactly the same issue on my first outing with my "new" 1086 yesterday. It started after a box of range ammo so I'm going to clean and try again, this time bringing brushes to the range to give a quick barrel clean if it happens again.

Things were getting pretty warm which may contribute, although it shouldn't.

Remember to remove the extractor pin top to bottom and put it back in bottom to top. A little Fastbolt knowledge I've gleaned.
