Your revolver is a .32 Safety Hammerless 2nd Model and was made about 1905. S&W called it a New Departure. It is also a member of the family of Top Breaks.

Hello H. P. KID,
No one can say for sure when your gun shipped without getting a factory history letter, but #1106xx shipped 1/1903 and 1223xx shipped 4/1904.

Thank you very much! I knew I went to the right place. As a 1903 production revolver was this revolver originally used with smokeless propellant, or was it a black powder only revolver?

Hi HP Kid, Your revolver was probably still a BP one. Heat treating began later. But, if in good condition, your revolver may be fired using Winchester or Remington .32 S&W (check Midway USA). I have learned that these oldies are so prevalent that the cartridge manufacturers I mentioned have loaded their new made ammo to compare with the old BP specs. But heavy firing is, apparently a no no even if the weapon is in good condition. Pop off a few rounds now & again seems to be the rule, not daily use. Regards, Ray
